Kurt, The little collar that mounts just below and into the dash is different from 66 to 67. Also, you need to consider the type of steering wheel you want to use. 66 and older wheels will not match up well with the wider diameter 67 steering column. Other issues; column wiring to dash wiring is different. I wouldn't recommend it unless you've thought out these obstacles.

Hey CCass Take that electric thought a little furthur please. I too am changing a 67 floor shift column into a 66 gto I can put column into lower dash "seat" and use a different u-clamp, with a little coaxing. Now I look at wiring and find 6 out of 7 wires match in color. Why can,t I clip ,rematch wires, and then wire them into 66 connector. The only wire that doesn,t match looks to be gray wire which was for shift indicator(no longer necessary). 67 connector has an ,unknown to me, brown wire. Yes it,s some tedious work but not overwhelming. Any thoughts? Thanks

I,m glad to hear you have a tilt column and I suggest you trade it for a 66 tilt column. I just learned more about columns than I wanted to know, but here it is for you. 67 is the same length and would work. CCass is right in that it is a fatter column, but it will "seat" into dash. However the u-clamp won,t work so you have to improvise. I gave up when I saw the electric problems. The c-connectos don,t match(67 is bigger). I think you could snip, match, and splice together, but I thought better of it. I bought correct covers for a 66 and quit. To have a tilt piece I do think you should get the correct one. Good Luck

I saved a 67 Catalina tilt column which I thought might work in my 67 GTO. I realise that the Catalina was a column shift so I knew I'd have to redo that part of the column to make it look like it came from a floor shift car. Will this column work in my GTO or should i sell it?

'67 B-body & A-body tilts are not the same. The B-body column is considerably longer than an A-body for every year it was produced. '67 & later column shift B-body columns contain some good core pieces to use in the building of more desirable columns. To me the '67-68 B series tilts are $75-100 core material max...have bought an obscene amt of them in the last 15 years.

The pedal hanger is different on a 67 A body than it is on a 66. You can switch the pedal hanger but you will also need the correct brake and clutch pedals because they are also different. A 68 Gran Prix tilt column can be made to work in a 67 A body, the difference is that an A body has a longer steering shaft. If you match up a 68 Gran Prix tilt column to am early Camaro they are the same length, I would assume it will also work in a early Firebird. A 67 A body tilt column sold recently on Ebay for $710.00.
