Hey guys, I have a 1970 Catalina. I put a transmission from a 1976 Bonneville in it (turbo 400). The problem is, the transmission mount bolt spacing is differenton the tailhousing, so I had to use the mount from the '76 transmission, which is about 1/2 inch taller than the '70 mount, causing the transmission to hit the trans tunnel. Short of changing the tailhousing, is there any way to fix this?

Thanks,
Bill

I do not think that you will be able to shave the mount or bend the crossmember. Can you elongate the bolt holes in you original mount? The only other option is to change the the tail housing(which is not bad to do).

Faced with a similar situation on my 68 GP, I took Steve's suggestion and elongated the holes.

Just a bit of useless info:
The tail housing from your old trans fits 65-70 full size Pontiac only!
The later tail housing is marked with a big "D" stamped on the top of it.It fit most 70's 400's.

Thanks guys. One more question: Did any of the fullsize Pontiacs from 1970 come with a turbo 350?

Engineer, How long did it take to shave the mount? It just seemed like it would drastically reduce the integrity of the mount, but if it works, great.
Some Full Sized Pontiacs fron 70-73?(Never saw a 74-up with a 350,but it may exist) had THM 350's.
It was in Catalinas with a 350 engine.
