Anyone have a Performer RPM in their 67-69 Firebird? I was wondering if the height of this intake is too high to clear my 67 400 hood. The car has the original chrome pancake air cleaner. I don't really know how much taller the Edelbrock intake is as opposed to the stock Pontiac intake. I also have all the standard insulation installed under the hood.

Ive got maybe 1/2" clearance with a 350 hood. Im using one of the AC Delco chrome 14" breathers. The one that has "PONTIAC" stamped in the top. The big hold down nut that came with it rubbed so I have to use a regular wing nut so it doesnt stick up above the lid. IOW, its reeeaaalll close.

Also running a Qjet.

69fbird350 = I have the performer and eddlebrock 4 bbl carb with 14 x 3 K&N filter and K&N offset drop down assembly and my insulation touches the top

Guys-

I hate to reiterate, but I am talking about a Performer *RPM* manifold, which is a higher rise than the straight Performer. ANyone using this manifold?

I use it and have sence put a Six Pac scoop on it. Your hood will not close. I put mine on looked like it would just clear and when I shut the hood all the way It left a small dimple on the hood. It just barly hit the wing nut. Im sure under load it would have rubbed much more. SPEED SAFE, AIR RAM

You know I guess if you used an off set Air cleaner assembly you may get the needed clearance. I was in italy at the time and did not have a spped shop around.... I just drove with the hood off.

I'm running the TorkerI & Q-Jet. My T/A hood won't close with the Dual-Snorkel anymore since I added the Top-Plate.

Looks like I gotta get a lowprofile airbase and put the foam-seal onto the Top-Plate .

Good topic...kind of like dirty underwear for me...been driving without air filter for a bit.

Seems several of us have a clearance problem. Glastek makes a neat cowl hood that retains the original "ironing board" lines. The only problem I have with it is that its like a 4" or 5" cowl. A little big for my taste. Maybe if enough guys requested a 3" cowl they could make it. Anybody?

I have a 69 bird with 400hood running performer rpm and 750 carb but i have elite seres air cleaner work good

I have the performer rpm intake with a 750 speed demon and a 2"X14" air cleaner on my 455 in a 69 FB with the 350 hood. I have 1/2" of clearance. I also have the engine braced to the frame to lessen torque flex.

I kinda like it but would like to see more views like the underside and how it mates to the panel between the hood and windshield.

I think I would still rather have a cowl hood as I described above.

Here is a response from Spotts Performance with regard to the hood I mentioned in the previous message:

I know that you are most interested in the RPM, but just for one more possible combo... I've got the Torker 2 and use an aftermarket (fiberglass) hood shroud & basket with a steel 400 hood on my '68. It all fits like it was born there.

I'm right at home in a filthy garage

Hey Mike, what kind of aftermarket (fiberglass) hood shroud & basket are you using; where'd you but it? Is it a drop down assembly?
