Just checked a couple things and found an odd one.

My 72 GTO has a data plate build code of "12C" meaning it was built during the 3rd week in December 1971. Now, the build sheet has a Date Shipped date of 09-22-72! No folks this is not a typo!

Anybody have any explaination for this - other than the line guys using it for pizza runs for 10 months?

There were strikes at some GM plants during the 1972 Model year. That could be the reason.

It came out of the Pontiac MI plant - can anybody confirm if this was one of the strike plants and what the dates may have been?

Chris, I hope I'm wrong, but that sounds to me like some kind of shennanigans going on.

Here's the data plate on my (Pontiac plant assembled) WW5 car. PHS invoice just received this morning shows a ship date of 11/23/71. Mine appears to jibe.

If the 'buid sheet' you are referring to is the 'PHS' invoice copy that is sent it could be one of two things. It is possible this was a GM company car that was sold as a 'brass hat' to a dealer. Is there a transportation amount listed on PHS invoice or an amount in the 'holdback' amount? If not then that is what happened. Another possibility is that it was rebilled from one dealer to another and the invoice shows the new dealer that was billed for carin September '72.

Good information, Bob!

I completely forgot that I recently received a PHS invoice for a VERY loaded 1971 LeMans Sport 455HO convertible.

Keep in mind that this is a 1971 LeMans - and the invoice shows a shiping date of 02/04/72 !!!

Several other items shown on this invoice which I've never seen before. The owner and I agreed that it was most likely a brass hat demo with an open MSO.

The holdback amount is 0.00 . Shows an option code "9D", BID $2911.00, and a "OPT" code, POI. CAR with a MSRP price of $158.55 and amount of $89.75.

I've heard of cars with multiple build sheets due to being taken back by Pontiac and sold to another dealership, but never seen one. I think it's time to send a letter off to Jim at PHS to see if he can shed some light on the subject.
