not sure what style "bullet" style is, but i can send you a picture of my side mirror (driver's side). I'll do it this weekend. It should be original

The 1970 GTO did not come with bullet style mirrors. A basic chrome manual one was standard on the driver's side, and you could get an optional chrome remote control mirror. The passenger side was bare unless you had a dealer put one on for you.

The bullet style mirror did not appear on the GTO until 1971, so what you have been seeing is alot of folks adding them to their 1970's (because they look cool). I'm eventually going to add them myself and keep my original remote mirror in storage for originality sake.

Here's an example of a bullet style mirror on a 1970 GTO (not mine, but representative of what folks are doing). These style mirrors were most common on Trans Ams and Grand Prixs of the 70's.

During the process of updating my 70 GTO to more modern parts, I did an electric mirror upgrade. After trying 3-4 different mirrors, I found a pair that looked good on the car. All the parts (mirrors, gaskets, pigtails and switch) are available new from GM (but like any new part from GM, they aint cheap). Im mounting the switch in my console. The pigtail for powering the switch/mirrors is a stand alone. That is, all you do is hook up the mirrors and a power and ground, plug it onto the switch and your good to go. To anyone interested I can supply pics of the mirrors and all relevant GM part numbers.

Yes, Tom, I would be interested in seeing your installation and knowing the part numbers for this electric mirror upgrade. Part of the difficult in putting vintage bullet mirrors on a 1970 GTO (assuming you want the internal control bezel to look stock), is to transfer the mirror control and rods to the new bullet mirror. This involve spreading open the swages on the mirror cables (three of them) which is not that easy for a 35 year old part made out of pot metal. Then, you transfer this pot metal part to the new mirror cables and reassemble. I have only disassembled the old remote mirror control and it was not easy. Let us know how your installation goes.

the 1970 GTO could be had with the driver side chrome remote or standard mioor only, the mirrors you are referring to were started on the 71 and up GTO

They are called Sport mirrors. I have heard of them being a dealer option at some point in the year.
