ive got a black and decker 5" orbital sander that i bought for $40.00.
seems to work pretty good and its fairly quiet, for a sander...lol

B&D sander for $40 at LOWE's, has spring clips on the ends to secure the retangular sections of sandpaper. Thats what I used on the '78.
FWIW....sandpaper is designed to be cut in certain patterns to fit the equipment it will be used with. For instance, take a sheet of sandpaper and cut in three sections. each 1/3 is cut to fit that particular sander pad perfectly.

Thanks guys, reinforced to myself that I made the right choice lol. Larry I picked one up last week, local store had a sale, reg 51cdn and got it for 19 cdn. Gotta love when a deal comes along.

I have used and gone through many. The best I have found is Porter Cable. They don't vibrate your hand off and have a lot of power for about $50. I personally like the orbital sanders better than the square type. The orbital pads velcro on, while the square sanders clip on and the paper always breaks while sanding corners. If you do need that type, Home Depot and Sears offers a glue on bottom that allows you to use velcro paper. I think the kit is about ten bucks, but highly worth it.

Put duct tape on the back of the sand paper. It keeps it from tearing off under the metal clips.

Sears Craftsman brand orbital that has a pa;m vibration free grip. The best part is that it takes BOTH size vacuum attachments and sucks the paint dust right away from the work.
