So what happened to the guarantee? Was it in writing? If it is in writing you should have some remedies available. Did your freind happen to pay with a credit card? If he did that's another avenue he can pursue as the card co. will reverse the charges if he disputes the charges if the car was not what was advertised.

Thanks for the comments. My friend is planning on filing a lawsuit in our state based on the internet transaction. We have a friend who is a lawyer and he did filed a suit on a similar case. The law is on our side.

Give us some more details!!! Do you have the decription of the car saved from the ad? Pictures? Conversations with the seller since delivery? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!

What the most important thing to take from this is never,NEVER, buy a car sight unseen. Pictures on ebay cannot give you the true condition of a car. Went and looked at a 66 goat that was on ebay and happened to be 25 miles from the house. Picture looked good, up close and in real life, WOW what a bucket!!! I wouldn't have given $500 for the car. Last I looked it had reached $2500. Buyer beware irgoatmike

I have used this approach to purchasing cars on E-bay when I am unable to see them in person prior to the end of the auction. Ask the seller direct and detailed questions through e-mail and make sure that all questions are answered via e-mail. This way, you've got a record of his/her responses. Don't ask general questions like, "Is there any rust or body filler on the car?". Ask, "Is there any rust/filler/patching anywhere on the right rear quarter, left rear quarter, trunk, cowl area, etc". Hit on every location of the car that generally has rust issues. You can always use this info to get out of the deal, or use it to reduce the price if the car is not as advertised and you would still consider buying it.

The advice here is absolutely correct (caveat emptor and all that stuff!). I have committed to buying a car before on ebay sight unseen and got a good deal. The things to remember are to check the seller's feedback - is it 100% with GOOD comments, numerically high & has he been trading for at least a year or two? If any one of these doesn't fit, beware. On the other hand, one cannot guarantee that what the seller considers to be a good car correlates with one's own opinion.

When bidding blind, I set myself a limit of how much I will go to before physically viewing the car. If I overbid & commit to buying a vehicle I would not have wished to own had I seen it, then I have only myself to blame for being lazy!

Remember, there is always another "bargain" out there. Don't rush to waste your money on the first vehicle that comes along!
