Hello. I'm new to the forum. I have a 66 GTO thats been sitting in my garage for years. I did a PHS documentation on the car. It came back as a 389 tri-power 4-speed coupe with A/C and various minor options. It's a CA car and has a 389 Tri-power in it now with the smog system. The dates on the engine, heads, intake match the prod. dates perfectly (within 1 week of build date) The problem is, the engine code is a WT and the PHS docs state it as a WV..could the factory has mis -stamped the block as a 389 4 bbl engine by mistake, or do you think someone replaced the engine with an exact date, 66 389, 4bbl block with an exact dated tripower intake? The trans and rear codes match fine.
Thanks Gary

there is a lot of things that any car, goes thou, with the age of our gtos,a lot can, and, has happened ,my 1st question is do you know any past owners? #1 never seen a factory mistake,on a engine myself,#2 1st week is pretty short, but not inpossible, haveing the a.i.r intact is really good, without seeing your 66,your block has been changed, have you looked under the gastank, or carpet, not going to give any more than the phs,but still good to have. hope this has helped. p.s what colar combo is the 6.

Thanks for the response, gtobypontiac.I have not looked for a build sheet. The PHS return sheet I got matches all the options on the car as well as the colors. I guess someone has changed the block at one time and got lucky to find a 66 GTO 389 with refect dates. My car was built 01A and the block is dated A66, heads A46, block A46. That's too bad because I thought it was a matching #. Will this depreciate the car? Is just the cam different on the 335HP and 360HP? The heads are 093..I think.I'd like to completely restore the car but this is a let down. The color code is LL. It's hasn't been on the road since '77 and is painted purple with heavy metal flake and a pint stripe going down the hood and deck! UGH!The interior is black.
