I just picked up a sweet 72 GTO and in it is a WM code 455ho with 7f6 heads. The engine is fresh with 700 miles. It has an under the hood edelbrock 2 four set-up. I bought it with the intent of street/strip but when I checked the engine code that kinda canned that idea.I would hate to spit a rod thru that block!!! It is not the original engine and was wondering what it might be worth.I also have the correct aluminum intake. It is an original 4 speed block and I know that has got to be hard to find....

Copied and pasted from Wallace Racings website:

WM: 1972 455HO, 300 HP, Manual trans, 8.4:1 compression, 7F6 heads, Ram Air, Block Casting # 485428; Believe that's a unitizes distrbutor engine! Would have been originally installed in a T41 LeMans, GTO, Formula, or Trans Am (if the T/A had been ordered with unitized igntion.

Interesting!

How about more info on the car, such as the fifth VIN character. "X" in the 5th position would mean rhat block COULD be OEM in your '72 GTO.

Pics would be nice, too.
