Can anyone comment on the quality of the reproduction '69 ram air hoods? I'm thinking of replacing my 400 hood which is going to need a lot of work to make right and I've always toyed with the idea of putting a TA hood on my 67.

John, if you are talking about the TA Ram Air hood, depends on what repro you want to go to as there are 3 options at this point:
1. The all fiberglass hood that does not support the RA tubes and pan in the frame.
2.The all fiberglass on top and in frame that support RA pan and tubes.
3.The FG on top steel frame under hood (supports RA pans and tubes).
Another item to mention is the scoops that are molded in on some FG hoods or separate on some. These are a dead give away that the hood is glass. Depends on what you go with. All FG needs some minor block sanding work prior to painting. They have been getting better with this as of late. let me know what is your intent. Of course they go up in price as well for the steel framed units.

Who makes the fiberglass on metal frame version ?? I have an all fiberglass bolt on hood I have been thinking about selling and switching to the fiberglass on metal style.

I was considering the FG on steel version from the Parts Place. You're correct about the tubes and scoops. The FG on steel version has removable scoops and can accomodate the tubes.

I know I will need to do some refinishing of the FG. In fact, I'd probably try to take some of the grain out of the underside to further improve the appearance.

So my question should be, can anyone comment on the quality and fit of the FG on steel frame reproduction RA hood?

Hammered, as far as I heard on the repros you mentioned, no complaints. A few years back there was a problem in that they sat too high, but I heave not heard of that problem recently. I was looking into purchasing one of these prior to findin my steel hood so I know a bit about them. There was one other guy who had recently purchased one from this board. Maybe do a search on this subject.

Hammered, I purchased one of the FB on steel frame hoods about a month ago. It seems to be fine. You will have to do a little work where the scoops fit the hood. The two top outside coners, the cut-out is a little too wide. I fixed that in a short time. It will need primed and sanded a time or two to get it real slick. I expected to have to do some work to it. All in All it's a pretty good hood.

Thanks, putting a little work into one doesn't scare me, but I didn't want something that would require total reconstruction.
