I tried calling there yesterday to see if Jegs had a part that Summit didn't carry. They have Cocky sales people and condescending tech support. I got so mad I got after the sales rep I was on the phone with and told him you can keep your lousy parts and horrible customer service. I don't know what those guys problems are but they sure won't be doing business with me. I'll do my business with Summit or Ames Performance thank you

I've dealt with both Jeg's and Summit, no problems with either so far!

I agree with pont406, I have dealt with both companies for 10 years or so and never a problem with either.

I'm not siding with anyone, as a matter of fact I work at Summit Racing, but one person shouldn't necessarily portray the whole company. The best thing you can do is call, and talk to a Supervisor, let them know of your experience. I know we monitor phone calls, for good and bad, but cannot monitor all calls, of all reps. If we receive negative feedback about one of our reps, we address it, and can hopefully fix the problem. I'm not condoning the behavior, but with the hundreds of calls that the phone people take, the rep may have just got off a not so pleasant call, be having a bad day or just not be a good person for the phone. But, if the company doesn't know, they can't fix it. Unfortunately I know that all companies don't think this way, but I like to think most do care about their customers, and want good people representing them and giving good service.

david, i've had the same problem with jegs in the past. it's why i do business with summit.

that being said, what cc66 said above is also on the money.

always get the name of the individual you talk with , if they are rude or the service is unsatisfactory record the time and date and call back and ask for a supervisor.

i've raised hell more than once over a problem like this with various companies.

Amen, brother. :-) Bought a pair of Pontiac, that's PONTIAC, as in, P-O-N-T-I-A-C intake gaskets from them about 12 yrs ago with a couple other items which I've forgotten. Got Olds gaskets, perhaps the most dissimilar gaskets on Earth to Pontiac. Sent them back. Got the right gaskets (eventually). Got charged their handling fee AGAIN, no credit on the return shipping or anything for their screwup, not that it was a huge amt of $ or anything but still... That was & will always be my last transaction with them. On the flipside, nothing but one perfect experience after another with Summit for 18 yrs. The ONLY "bad" experience I had with Summit was 0% their fault & they went out of their way to fix it. Had an old '72 Beetle (don't ask) I was playing around with & special ordered a "special" Pacesetter muffler, unique to old air-cooled VWs, through them. It was without a doubt the most horribly manufactured POS in world history (in THIS particular case anyway...to be fair, I know nothing of their other products) with the exh flanges about 45 degrees off, the 2 pipes not even coming close to lining up with the bends in the rear apron and it had water in it! Tried to shake the water out of it and all the paint started falling off!! Even though it was practically falling apart in my hands as I put it back in the box to ship it back & out of my sight, they refunded my purchase no questions asked even though they put themselves out for me with the special order (normally nonrefundable)...and it would be IMPOSSIBLE to resell anywhere. I told them I'd understand completely if they'd deny a spec order refund but they would hear none of it. Summit vs Jegs is the easiest decision you'll ever make.

I've done business with both. Jegs took back some aluminum heads that I had already PAINTED. I've never had any real trouble with either company other than some poor box packing and subsequent box damage & missing merchandise (holes in the box caused by poor packing) during shipping from jegs.

I will usually find when ordering that one will have everything I need and the other will be missing a widget or 2. The order then goes to the one with the stuff in stock.

I wasn't going t get in this, but I feel obligated to tell my experiances with Jegs (and Summit). Years ago, I ordered parts from Summit. Being in Alaska, there is no UPS ground shipping from the lower 48. I always requested second day (UPS blue) air but it was sent Next day air (UPS red). Even after discussing this with their sales people, it persisted so I switched to Jegs. Up until a year or so ago, I had good service, but on the last job that I ordered parts for, they double shipped a high dollar item. I just passed it of as a mistake until I mentioned it to a shop owner friend and he told me that they had done that to him in both of his last two orders. Even though they screwed up, they charge a restocking fee, plus I paid the return freight. So... I'm back with Summit and dealing with Scott Esterle makes it worth while, and I haven't had even the slightest problem.

I deal with both, no complaints about anyone. Altough Summit does charge very high handling fees for foreign customers, waittaminute that was a complaint

I have delt with both and have no complaints. You have to take the good with the bad. Not everyone is friendly all the time. You have to think about how many calls they get a day. Mabey you just call after he gets done with a rude customer. I tend to be very friendly on the phone and I think it rubs off. I really love when you call to order parts and they (summit or jegs) say " hello Mr. Scalfo what can we do for you today". If you spend enough they give you free hats.

CrashCat66: what happens if the person you were dealing with WAS the supervisor/manager
what do you then with a company like that ?

have a similar scenario now like that .

ok here goes I have had 1000's of dollars of parts from summit and atleast a few K in parts from jegs. I was never sent double anything. I was upset that they advertise Free shipping but charge 10$ handling fee. Thats one complaint but a MINOR one because they gotta get ya someway they are mail order and shipping costs money.
So anyway I wait until I have enough for a BIG order so the handling fee is nothing compared to the shipping. I have always gotten what I ordered but I have been steered in the wrong direction when I wasnt specific enough. That is also a minor complaint because I sent the wrong Items back and Didnt have to pay restocking or handling in any instance. My BIG COMPLAINT: I used to have only the weekends to work on my car with a buddy who blows me off now. Anyway I worked 3rd shift and like sunday night he would say order your parts and well do the job on saturday. So on monday morning at 7 am I would plunk down the money and SPECIFY/ ASK what shipping I need to make sure the parts got here by Friday. A few times about 4 the parts were late which pissed me off. The good thing is EVERY TIME I made a complaint about it the handling or 2cnd day shipping was refunded. I prefer SUMMIT to jegs but sometimes Summit is out of stock or 20$ more so Ill use jegs. I argued with jegs once about the handling because they were mis representing "free shipping" on thier catalog at the time. No star or fine print to say handling is extra like summit. I didnt like the way they treated me so NOW summit gets all my business. I have been taken care of the best by summit. I also learned to call the free line and have them connect me to the techline {I believe they only do that if your ordering but I may be wrong and tech line is free} ANyway I make sure I get the correct part. Only one mess up since the tech line and that was them letting/telling me order an ADDCO sway bar to go with the hotchkis Boxed control arm suspension kit. It was the wrong bar but again shipped back and charged no restock no handling on out bound order.

Summit gets 99% of my business-good service, quick ground from Nevada and they support sportsman racing alot more than Jegs.

I also do most ordering from Summit and they have been 100% to date. Most of the time anything I order makes the trip from their warehouse in Ohio to my doorstep in Buffalo, NY the very next day (and that is standard shipping!). I have also purchased a few times from Jegs and have no real problems except shipping seems to take a little longer but never more that 2-3 days so I can't complain there but I have found the Summit people to be a little bit more friendly. The main reasons I choose summit is the customer service & they seem to have a little bit better selection of PONTIAC stuff although when I tell them it is for a 421 they get a little confused :D and last but not least, there website is WAY, WAY better!

Just my .02 (about all I have left from the last Summit order)

I never had a problem with them in the past.

I recently had a problem, which was no big deal, however, it was the attitude of the CSR on the other end that was the problem. It will be years before I buy from Jeg’s again!

People are all too fast to damn the whole organization due to one guy having a bad day. Caller should have asked for a supervisor, taken a deep breath and resolved the problem. Society today has gotten so used to getting our way, right away. So anytime a little bump in the road comes along we fly off the handle. I'm sure Jegs and Summit didn't get to where they are today by treating people like s**t. I've used both companies for over 15 years and have never had a problem. I'm sure every now and then someone screws up an order, but hey, they're only human man. Give them a break! Just my 2 cents.

Since we are Jebs bashing, is their web site extremely confusing to use? I spend too much time trying to find parts on their site. I can find parts easier on Summits.
