I am new to the group. I am restoring a 72 trans am. I was wondering if someone could explain how the heat riser system works on this car. I have had the engine balanced and blueprinted but the intake if not heating up initially. Once you run the car for a few minutes it's fine. The intake is not getting warm fast enough and is creating a puddling effect with the gas. There is hesitation. I believe there is hoses that come down from the bottom of the air cleaner. One goes to the exhaust drivers side manifold and the other we can't figure out. No one seems to have a diagram or picture of this system. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. Thanks

Did you by chance block the heat crossover off with the gasket set? The pre-heater shrouds has two ducts. One on the driver's side exhaust manifold that connects to the driver's side snorkle of the air cleaner and the other sits on the passenger side of intake manifold crossover and runs to the other snorkle.

I'm not sure what would be causing your problem but when I was running my HO intake with the crossover removed, it was a BEAR to drive and idle cold.
