the first issue is that i needed to move the dist. on my 69 bird 350, to get to a bolt on the back of the block, in doing so i pulled the dist. up & out a little and then realized i may have moved a few teeth. So i put it back in and it started, so is that ok? was it close enough to where it was before? I reset the timing to 12degrees. The specs for my car is 9 degrees, do you advance the timing a little with an HEI iginition? that's how it was when i got it (at 12). also i have no idea where to hook up a tach just to check my idle speed. it seems a little fast. what is reccomended? 650rpm. ? I am new with the electronic ignition, so hopefully i am in the right direction. thanks for any help

If it is running then you are ok . To hook up a tach there is an extra connection on the HEI cap. Most are marked tach some will not be. If not marked it is the one that currently is not being used. You need to set the timing at an idle around 6 to 700RPM. Someplace between 9 and 12. Whatever your car likes the best with NO PINGING.Idle depens on combo. Again what you like usually 750 to 950 rpm after timing has been set.

ok sounds good for the rpm check, but now with the timing. i may need to know exactly how to time this. do i set the idle first to 600, then plug the vacum advance line or not?, and then time it to about 10-12 degrees, then connect vacum advance and check idle speed again?. timing is not my specialty at all....
