Bogus second chance offers are being sent from foriegn scammers who are posing as the seller.

If you are outbid on an item and then receive a second chance offer to buy it, please make sure that you are really dealing with the seller.Always go back to the actual auction page and contact the seller from there to confirm that the offer is for real.

Because second chance offers are a familiar thing to most people who use ebay, I can see how someone could be easily fooled by this.I have heard of 5 recent incidents of this scam, each of them coming from someone in England.I just helped save a guy $970 yesterday. Please help pass the word around Thanks Will

Agreed, Will. Even if it looks legit, when you go to reply to it, you will notice the e-mail address change to something different than who it was from.

I replied to the situation I had, with a few choice curse words!!!!!!

If you take the bait, they will go so far as to set up a secure transaction through e-bay!!!!!

Chances are that if it is something that you are really intested in, you have already asked the seller a few questions. I would go right back and ask them if the second chance offer is legit, too.

Another reason to avoid the second chance offers is that there is no feedback system for them. I lost an auction for a "mint, unused" Silverado SS dealership poster. I later got the second chance offer and bought the poster. When it arrived, it was crumpled and still had tape on it from where the seller had it hanging on his wall. Granted, it was only like $30, but I really wanted to let the seller have it in his feedback. But eBay won't allow feedback to be posted for a second chance offer. Boy was I pissed!

Always log directly into PayPal also. Don't use the email links when you win a bid. Sometimes these emails are fake.
