Does anyone know the specs for testing valve springs that have been removed from a set of Pontiac 6X-4 double-spring heads? I'd like to test my used springs first befoe deciding to purchase a new set of springs. I've already checked the straigtness of the springs against a carpenter's square and all of the springs are within a 1/16". I have a 300lb spring tester that I can use to test the springs, but am not sure of the height and spring tension that I should be checking. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I am using a Crane Cam with the 068 grind for my motor.

You need to know the installed height, and what the pressure is suppossed to be at that height. You can then determine if seat pressure is what it should be. To start you need to know what springs you have...if not, it may be worth it to buy a new set of springs. Afterall, they are not that expensive.
