If CCASS set-up a unique forum for Modern Technologies (EFI, Supercharging, Turbocharging, Nitrous Oxide, and all of the support systems),
would anyone visit that forum? What other ideas
would you add to that forum?

I've played with turbocharging and fuel injection on engines other than Pontiacs, but the basics apply to any engine. I'd find such discussions interesting.

I'm sure it would be quite popular.

although i have been acused of "living in the dark ages", it would be nice to see a forum devoted to the modern technology. after all, we all have a common interest in century old technology.....the internal combustion engine

I just received a note from CCASS that the forum has merit, idea will be moved to the next stage by him, etc. The forum will be a "NO BS" forum, and will attempt to pass on as much technology knowledge as possible.

Sounds great to me! An EFI RAIV with an OD tranny is in my future I think.

Absolutely!

Right now I can see my TBI system for my new 428 across the room.

But your examples were power-adder - topics.

I'm thinking Moderm Tech would include:

Variable duration valvetrains.
Trip computers, Ignition delay/limiters, anti-ping
Hydraulic-actuated valves, valvestemless heads.
Chopped blocks.
variable-ratio transmissions.
Hybrid power cars.

I'd like to see that Modern Tech Forum,

I can only speak for power adder topics because that is what I get paid to do in my day job. If
the forum was launched, I would recommend that the forum be open to any Modern Technology discussion because it would help the board members understand the issues with some items that you mention above. Variable Duration valvetrains, Hybrid power cars, alternative fuel
cars, electric cars, etc. are all being looked
at by the auto industry. Why shouldn't we be aware
of what is possible with modern technology?

Tom,

My reply was partly to point out that blowers and nitrous are not so Modern. Effective = YES.
I think they would retain their proper fit in the moderm Tech topic.

Overall, I would see the Modern Tech Topic be the R&D forum for unrefined items, and ultimately get discussed in the Race forum when developed.

NOW HOLD ON A MINUTE. THINGS ARE MOVING WAY TOO FAST AROUND HERE. LAST week I changed my 37 year old car over to electronic ignition. Now this week you want to move me into HEI EFI TBI and AOD. Whats for the week after CIA FBI IRS??? I need more time to think this through. Too much going on around here . Last month caught my wife trying to sneak my last good pair of bellbottomed levis complete with patches into the goodwill sack. Lucky for her I saved them and my love beads. I vote that we table this discussion for say 12 years from next Tuesday. Too much pressure for me I am going out to the garden to think about this.

Tom- Great idea!

Personally, I'm all for such a forum. It's about time that the technology made its way into our camp. I've been investigating and writing about this very topic since the 1980s.

Just think about it, traditional Pontiacs, turbos and EFI in the same discussion...I dunno- it could lead to dancing! LOL

Another thought might be to do a "forced induction" forum. That way, both EFI and carburetion could be discussed together- perhaps that might be a good way to include topics on Jimmy blowers, centrifugals, turbos, etc. I know that EFI is the most accurate way to do things, but if someone had an old draw-through turbo setup, 6-71 street blower or whatever, they could participate as well.

However it's handled, I say let's do it!

The discussion so far in the post has been great.
I think that you could have several cuts on how
to arrange the information. CCASS could bin the information once we had several hundred posts and see what shakes out. Trying to make all of these catagories up front would be a lot of work for him. "Modern Technologies" in retrospect was a poor choice of words. Most hardware technology was invented at least 50 years ago. What we have today is better materials for durability, better processes for manufacturing, and ELECTRONICS for faster manipulation of information. My initial thought was an educational forum where the different technologies could be discussed, (EFI,
Boosting, Data input and storage, Computer soft ware, part vendors or sources to build your own, and how the individual parts actually work). If Wade wants to build an EFI, blown RAM AIR V, so be it. If Larry wants help on installing a crank trigger of his design, so be it, If Don wants to
do a draw thru carb, blown pontiac bonneville, so
be it. The common thread is that we are helping each other by sharing knowledge of how things are designed, how to properly build the parts, and how to install them.

Perhaps a "Next Generation Performance" title or some spin off would be more appropriate?

I'd like a one stop shop for EFI and under-hood blower set-up tech question and answers. I try to copy them when they come up to a word file to keep track of them.
