When I measured this it seemed to be 1 3/16, but when I went to get it, the guy at my shop said his supplier doesn't even make a plug that size, so I bought a 1 1/4 one. Now I am afraid to put it in. It seems to begin to nestle into the hole ever so slightly, but not as mush as the plugs on the end did.

32mm will also fit, although it is about 0.010" larger. Used them many times in that location.
