I am putting i 455 in 69 lemans and was wondering if I can put it in w/ the headers on. I have a motor leveler and was thinking it might be easier to do it with the motor install. Thanks Darrell

Sure does follow these 7 easy steps.

1- Remove front clip
2- Remove body from frame
3- remove steering components
4- Sawzall frame into two equal halves
5- Install moter/headers onto one half of frame
5- install other half of frame onto motor
6- weld frame back together
7- Install steering componants

I guess I'll have to disagree on this one! I have a '71 GT37 w/455block with round port heads. The ONLY way I can get the drivers side 2" hooker header on- is to put it on first, then tilt and twist the engine so the collector goes into the transmission tunnel first, then twist and lower the engine 'til it's almost in. Then hold up the pass header, while lowering in the rest of the way. Then spend 2/3 hrs trying to get those bolts started. I have done it this way for at least 7 years, and it's the only way it works for me. Bill

Ditto to what Bill Meyer said. With my 69 GTO, I run Hooker Super Comps, and I have to install engine, with the headers "in place" in the eng compartment. Before motor is "in", I have to start installing headers. RT header MUST be installed while eng is just hovering over motor mnts...a real PITA!

I have 1-7/8" Hedman Hustlers with 3.5" collectors (for d-ports) in my 79 T/A and they require an adapter plate between the header flange and the cylinder head.

I'm never buying another Pontiac header that doesn't require this adapter.

I can set the engine on its mounts and slip the headers in from underneath AND be able to get to ALL of the bolts with a socket or wrench. With the enlisted help of a friend, we had both headers on the car and snugged down tight in about 20 minutes (not kidding).

I've never been able to do that with any other header.

While I've never tried it on a 2nd gen. T/A; looking at mine w/ the entire front-end off, I believe my 428 w/ Doug's 1 7/8 x 3 1/2 headers will slide in. I'll let y'all know very soon, as I'll try it. Soon as the cage is finished.
