My '67 car has an engine date code of dec 66. intake has the same. I was wondering about the difference in the fuel line design between early and late 67's. I have heard about the 2 designs. My car has two fuel lines running back from the tank.I recently put on a new fuel pump and the pump only has provisions for 1 line. What is the proper fuel pump for this car? What is the differnce in the early / late fuel designs? Also on a related topic, my Gas gauge is now stuck on FULL. WHat is this commonly caused by?
Thanks a lot!
James

Does your car have a/c?Usually a/c cars have a vent line, which is the 2nd line going to the tank. The a/c or 3 line pump is readily available.(You could just plug the vent and use the 2 line pump.)

Vidguy... I acquired a 68 Firebird in Dec. of 68 that I'm sure was all factory stock. My father had ordered the car in early 68 while he was in Vietnam. The car was delievered to the west coast. My mother flew out and met him on his return to the states, in the summer of 68, and the two of them drove the car back to the east coast where we lived. The car was a YT 400 without AC but had the 3 outlet pump. I had the car for some years and replaced the fuel pump several times. I was always asked if the car had AC ( which seemed to be the difference ) and I quickly learned to say yes, otherwise I got the wrong pump. I don't know for sure but always suspected that being a California car perhaps it was required to have the extra line do to some emissions requirement. But that is only my guess!!!!!! Is your car from California??? Just a thought.

67 Fuel line is an early vs. late thing. You have purchased an early 67 pump. All 67 GTO's had a vapor return line coming from the tank. The early cars had the return line bypassing the fuel pump going up to the "canister" type filter on the intake. By around Feb/March 67 they went to a fuel pump that had the provision for the return line therefore eliminating the (GF98) FUEL FILTER and the small line going to the filter. Although H.O. cars may be the exception. They seem to all have the early style setup.

Usually when your gauge is pinned on FULL, there is a grounding problem.

Hi all
My car does NOT have A.C. It is a California Car, built in Fremont, Ca. But my car does have, and always did, a metal fuel filter on the intake. So should I buy the early style pump and look to find the proper tubes and hose to get the line up to the filter on the Intake Manifold? You know I just went and looked and the fuel filter, and the really old one I have laying around, have 2 openings on the passenger side of the filter. So that is where the line ends up, huh? Is there a flex hose and a rigid that get you attach to the long line coming from the tank to get up to the filter?

Thanks all
James

I have an original 67 GTO with an HO engine built in November 66. The fuel pump has only an inlet and outlet. The outlet of the pump goes thought a 3/8 hard line to the filter mounted on the manifold. There are two outlets from the filter. The 1/4 inch line goes back to the return line to the tank (also through a hard line) and the 3/8 outlet goes to the carb. Hope that helps
