I have all the remaing windows out of my 66 GTO and they are nasty. Is there any thing to soak or clean them with other than lots of window cleaner and elbow grease? I would think if they soaked in something like lime-away or something else the film and crud would come off easier, then use window cleaner to finish. Any suggestions?

I think i used simple green on them to help take the crud off and then 000 steel wool lightly to loosen up the crud further as well as the backside scrub part of a kitchen sponge.Hosed them off and then the washed them with soap and water and then rinsed and windexed and dryed them.Turned out nice.

I used "Goof-Off" to clean mine. Essentialy lighter fluid I think. Works well to break down the nasties and it evaporates quickly.

Garden hose, air dry, followed by 0000 steel wool.

The best cleaner for windows is ammonia. It will clean off the lime build up and any kind of dirt.

I've used 3M polishing compound. The type you would use for buffing out a laquer paint job. It leaves the glass absolutely clean like it was new. Also, not much effort is required. Use by hand only. A machine will leave swirls.

Ok-- I have tried ever suggestion left on this post and still have windows that have water spots on them. I have used polishing compound and 0000 steel wool, simple green,a lime reomval product,ammonia and even a product boaters use to clean boats. The windows look clean when looking straight through, yet if you look at an angle you can still see water spots. This is driving me crazy, do I just need to throw in the towel and get new windows or quit being anal and live with what I have. I have only 3 windows- 1-vent and 2-quater windows, so I am going to have to get the remaining 4 windows any way. I was hoping to save these 3 windows, so I would have more money to spend else where. Any suggestions????

MAJOR KUDOS TO KS circutguy-- your recommendation of Spot-X was out of this world. Just finished 3 windows and not a water spot left, they are absolutely spotless. They recommend using a vibrating sander for hard to remove spots and their no-scratch pad. Thought they were crazy--well guesse what-it works great. The only problem I had was getting the mixture thick enough (it is a powder you add water to), it need to be a thick and I mean thick paste to work, but does it ever work. Thanks again for the tip, may go to doing windows for a living (not).
