picked up these rims over the weekend, the owner siand they came on a 65 impala he bought, but had no idea who the maker is?

theyre aluminum (i think, because they are pretty light),15x8.5 unilugs

ANSON ?? they made this style & were very popular like the crager ss during this period.

EVERYBODY made this style rims back in the day. We called them "Astros". The first I remember seeing them was about 1969, but the memory goes, you know.
In picture #2, is that cast lettering on the back or just my eyes? And not to rain on your parade, but they look like "home-made" Uni-lugs too, like somebody oblonged the holes to change from GM to Ford.

yeah, those are casting letters on the back.
ive been looking online and did find a few versions of these, most of them all have differences...just kinda hoping someone might recognize them and a brand maybe.

shadow, how can you tell from the pics that they look like homemade unilugs?

They look like Starsky and Hutch wheels... I'm pretty sure that car had Ansen wheels. We always referred to them as slot mags when I was a kid, like the others said many companies sold them. I think you need some little inserts for those bolt holes on Unilug wheels, so the wheels centers itself properly on the hub.

they do look almost identical to the ones i have. others ive found on the net look a little different, but i couldnt find any ansen unilugs.
were ansens made in the usa?

True "Uni-lug" wheels have a hole that is a true oval. To my eye, yours look like they're not always the same diameter at both ends and some have a "waist" in the middle. Also, some of the spot-facing for the round washers doesn't look like it's centered over the oval. The locator washers should be oval as well, I think, yours are round. Can't really remember if I ever saw round washers with an offset hole.
Ansen didn't make "Uni-lugs" with that name, though they may have made dual-fit wheels. I believe Uni-lug was a trademark of E-T Wheels, as far as that went. Yours are not E-Ts--those have the name and sizes cast into the rim.
Somewhere on the web I know there's a site that IDs wheels like this, but I can't remember what the URL is. What are the casting marks? Maybe there's a geezer here that remembers them...

the castings on mine are just rim size and the max load. both have different castings on the back, one sais "mexico" on it

i didnt know "uni-lug" was tradmemarked. my old cragars were unilugs, but they didnt have the oval washers, the ones that these look like they need.

i never thought i made a great find, im just happy to have a couple of cool rims for $50 until i can really afford to get the salt flats.

The Cragar SS's I bought back in '80 or so, had round washers with an offset hole. (I still have the wheels, but cant seem to find the nuts and washers).
