Hi,
I just received the Accel 31042 Advance Curve Kit from PY. I eagerly opened it up to read the directions. They are as clear as mud. The instructions have a chart on the back page that shows red, blue and white springs. The kit contains black, silver and gold colored springs. The chart does not say what the horizontal axis represents. I went to the Accel website and there is no additional info available there for this kit. I can't be the only one who has experienced problems understanding the instructions. Any experience out there? Thanks, Mike Murphy

Sorry I can't help....BUT I ran into the same PIA deal and ended up with alot of trial and error. I agree...that the instructions suck!

HPP just did an article on tuning the advance curve in their January 03 issue. The article was called “Just in the Spark of Time”, and they installed Accel’s 31034 kit. Thought this would have the answer to the spring colors, but it doesn’t.
 In fact, they mentioned that the spring colors don’t match the instructions. They simple chose the springs with the highest tension for their setup. Looks like someone should call Accel and get the straight answer on this.  Sorry this didn’t answer your question. |

yeah, been there. just go with the trial and error. i found that the light springs sucked, the middles were alright, and the goat ran best with the heaviest.

Mike is this for an HEI, I'm too tired to go out and look up what that part number is for? If it is do yourself a favor. take your weights off and look at the numbers on your center cam (you'll have to remove it to find them). Match up what you got with what is in the chart I fixed up for you guys and see what you'll end up with. "Distributor Advance Curve values" is the chart topic. I'd just use the springs as I won't tell my true feelings about that kit unless you call or e-mail me.

Hey,
I wrote an e-mail to Accel and explained the problem with the color mismatch and the poor instructions. The answer that I got back said to use the silver springs. Not much help. I also wrote to PY from whom I bought the kit. So far, no reply. Is Steve at Summit the "go to guy" for problems such as this? Thanks, Mike
