I'm going to be replacing my steering box with a Q.R. soon, and I need any tips you might have on removal/installation. Any hidden problems?
It's a '67 GTO. A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing (G.B.Shaw). At least that's my excuse.

Just did this myself. You may need a puller for the Pitman arm (I sure did). Put in a new "rag" joint with grade 8 hardware. If power, flush out the pump and lines. The one I purchased had a caution not to use ATF for some reason, although I always have in the past. I put in GM power steering fluid. Not a tough job, particularly.

Not ATF? Hmmmmmmmm, that's always been the standard up until recently. I wonder what's up with that? We're still talking about an older system made to use ATF when it was designed.
Have any of you had any problems with the fittings? I'm heading down to the auto parts store to get the tool for removing that pitman arm. That seems to be the real knuckle-buster in the whole thing. Where'd you get the rag joint??? A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing (G.B.Shaw). At least that's my excuse.

You can get a rag-joint replacement kit at most auto stores. Check the HELP! parts. They kit is like 10 bucks. I just replaced mine, and there was some grinding involved since most of the originals werent bolted together.
They also sell a full replacement rag joint that bolts right on, PY sells 'em also for 50 bucks or so. |

Got it all swapped yesterday. Seems to work well. Can't wait to get the big sway bar to see if it handles better.
