I'm planning on going to Topeka but is the Midwest Pontiac Drags in Cordova a better race to go to? Anyone going to one of them? I'm taking two cars to race. Doesn't hurt to have a spare.

I am planning on making it to the event in Cordova. It's my first trip to an all Pontiac drag event, so I am pretty excited about it.

Ok I am a little bias as my car is on the flyer . Plus I want the event to go well so it will happen again next year. Then my current all expense paid trip to this lovely oasis of Iraq will be over.. Now I havent been to Cordova. But Pontiacs At the Park in Topeka's Heartland Park is a nice facility. It is also offering the biggest purse. Kevin Constant and the gang are trying to make it a huge annual show in the Midwest. Heartland Park Topeka and the awesome sponsors have really come forward to make this a good deal for all us Pontiac Lovers.. Its been getting bigger every year!! So come on out and help make it grow!!! http://www.hpt.com

We are going to Cordova, 360 miles versus 600. Can't afford to do both!

I'll be at the Midwest Pontiac Drags. Bill (400Plus) will have the P.O.C.I Blackhawk chapter banner up for the PY members to find each other.
See my post in the Events section.

I'd like to go to both but can only go to one. Topeka is 850 miles and Cordova is 1200 from here. Mark, your car looks awesome on the flyer. Stay safe out there in Iraq. Anyone know the elevation of the tracks and what is the turnout like? I missed Pontiac Heaven Drags in Phoenix so I'd like to race at one of these events.

We'll be at Cordova. It's a nice (and fast) track but nothing like the big facilities. Just a race track out in the middle of farm country, shade trees and good people

Wade, I always thought that some pretty good people lived in Kansas to. Plus check out the payout. It is a no brainer!

No disagreement here! Just trying to describe the Cordova track for those that have not been there.

Ditto to what MarkZ said, and also j brady about that payout. Here's is the payout for the Quick 16, $1500-winner, $1000-runner up, $500-semi's, $150- qtrs, and an additional $500 bonus to the winner. I know I will be there going for that. They have decent payouts for the rest of the classes as well.

Glad to see you'll be in Topeka, Darryl. I'll be there, too. I have a white '64 GTO that says "Townsend's Performance and Speed" on the side.

Darryl and Jim. Would you please take a few moments and speak to someone about a multi-day event? It could be a winner.

Ron,
I sure will. Personally, I would probably not have risked towing all the way from Tucson to Topeka for a one-day event because of the danger of a rainout. The proximity of the GTOAA race in St. Louis this year just five days later is what tipped the scales for me--that, and the chance to sell parts at the convention between the two races. Two-day events are always a real plus for those coming from any distance.

I'm sure it's tough on the promoter, too, though, with the cost of track rentals. Our GTO club here in Tucson held our first Pontiac race years ago and make a good profit. The next time, though, the event was postponed on account of high winds and we lost our shirts on the re-scheduled race.

Jim

I was at that event in Tucson when the wind was so wild. I convoyed over with Jim Wangers and Ed Dufrene. Remind me to tell you a very funny story about the trip over.

Like I posted on another thread. Maybe a test and tune on Friday. Saturday could be a Pontiac only race and Sunday be a muscle car race. Very similar to Pontiac Heaven.
