This seems like a cool idea, and has the benefit of not using harsh and toxic chemicals. Heck, the write up even says you can pour the dirty water out on the lawn...it's just iron rich. I have a real old and real large freezer out in one of my sheds. Hasn't been used for years, by grandpa used to keep deer meat in it. I was going to drag it in a dumpster this summer, but maybe I'll hold onto it. If I make sure it is water tight, I could fill it and use it to de-rust fenders.
Doing this might qualify me for a future Jeff Foxworthy joke: "If you use an old freezer as a de-rusting tank in your back yard, you might be a redneck." lol

I know this might sound crazy, but can a person dip a car body to remove surface rust?

Yes Redi-strip will dip the whole body in an alkaline solution that will remove all the rust paint and bondo. Then they soak it in a phosphoric acid solution I think.

Acid dipping is one way but I don't want yo deal with caustic acids,This de-rusting tank is a way I would like to go if at all possible.

I have been unable to find "washing soda" Is it OK to us baking soda instead?
Anyone know what effect it would have on cam bearings or brass freeze plugs? My block has some rust on it and already has new cam bearings and freeze plugs installed. Do I have to remove them before doing the proceedure? |

I would also like to know where I can buy it. That is why I asked if Baking Soda would be an acceptable substitute. The local grocery stores and Wall Mart don't carry Washing Soda.

I don't really want to order it online. Would cost more to ship than to buy it. There is a Giant Eagle near me. I'll check to see if they have it there.
Anybody know what the effect would be on cam bearings and brass freeze plugs? |
