Springs coming and I was thinking of upgrading the tires and rims on my 69 GP. It has the stock 14" rally on it now, looking to go 15" with a wider thread pattern. What do you guys recommend for rim and tire size and depth. And will going to 15" throw off the speedo?
The car is basically stock, you can see it here: 1969 Grand Prix |

First of all...WHOAH! That is an AMAZING GP Logan!
Going to a 15" won't necessarily throw the speedo unless you go to a different overall tire height. For example, going to a 15" rim with a slightly lower sidewall profile that matches the previous tire height will not alter the speedo operation and will actually improve handling a bit. I have the stock 14x7 Rally IIs on my 70GP and I think another 1" of offset would really meet the outer wheel lip nicely. Check out www.wheelvintiques.com for some additional info about measuring. In a nutshell, if you had a 14x7 Rally II spare, lay a straightedge across the back rim lip and measure the distance to the mounting surface. This will be your backspace. I think a 15x8 Rally II with the backspacing measurement from your 14x7 will give you a nice, deep looking offset allowing for more tire width without looking "tacky". Obviously there are a number of factors you need to consider so use the rim measuring tools at the wheel sites like WheelVintiques and educate yourself. They are really easy to use. BTW, I have a few questions for you about your GP. Would you email me off the board at your leisure? Thank you! John Piotrowski [email protected] www.fullsizepontiacs.com |

Ponchopio...
Thanks for the info...and you have mail. 455GP.... The color code in my VIN is "P". I bought the car late last summer and the guy I got it from had it repainted Palladium Silver which was the stock color. The only downside is, the paint seems to have a green hue to it when looked at in the light but it doesn't show up in the pictures. I've never seen "new" Palladium silver before, so I can't say for a fact if that is normal or not. |

WOW! nice looking g.p.
on my 69 i bought 4 15x8 rallyII's from "WheelVintiques" front tires are: 245/60/15 rear tires 295/50/15 B.F.G.'s i think it looks awsome! really fills out the rear wheelwell.this set up worked w/stock sagging springs,NO RUBBBING! at all. then i changed springs for a level stance.both front and rear tires measure 26 inches tall.

THAT's why this message board is such a great resource. You both live within an hour of me! I'm in Homewood IL. I'm going to put an informal Pontiac cruise night together this summer in the Chicago area. We'll have to hook up sometime. Do either of you guys ever hit the Frankfort Cruise night on Thursdays in the summer?

Hey Bernie
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Yeah, I'd love to check out your GP! I have a lotta plans for mine and I'd like to see what combination you used on yours. Once I get mine up and running again for this year, I'll definitely look you up. |

455GP....
I just threw some armor-all on it for the pictures, it lasts about a day and streaks the hell out of my windows. I remember way back when, they had a vinyl top conditioner that would do the same job and last about 3 months. I looked high and low for it with no luck. |
