Why not do it right the first time??? Buy the
thick gasket,I know they cost more but they are available...I won't double anything but a steel- shim gasket,then only as a last resort?? Dave |

I use to be able to get McCord's(0.052),but
they have disapeard?? fel-pro 0.043,then there's copper? Someone on this site mentioned that there was a new gasket coming out from some company???? Can anyone help..........How much deck do you need in this motor? Maybe one of the engine builders, can jump in ?? LOL...Dave...1033/stock |

I too was looking into 'thick' head gaskets as a way too lower the compression in my 455. Everybody I talked to that I considered knowledgable; in racing circuits, machine shops, etc...all said the same thing: NOT for street use! If you're racing, and you're going to be pulling the engine apart all the time, then copper gaskets are okay. But street use will kill them way too quickly; and I was told, "You'll have water everywhere." (Everywhere you DON'T want it, that is.) I was convinced; so instead of using thick gaskets; I'm using a new block!

didnt dish or chamfer pistons because my pontiac engine builder is a freak. assured me ova and ova that engine would be fine, ... but running 94 octane on a 10.75 to 1 compression engine aint good. so i was looking into a temporary solution until i gots the bux for deeper work.

Cut the sparkplug ground electrode to half-length and side-gap to .035" Limit total advance to 34degreees tops at 2800RPM and higher.
