I have scratched my head over this lots..Is it to compensate for the fluid from moving forward during sudden braking? or....??
I have always wondered and it makes it so easy to spill fluid out the back of the Master...

Really!!??
Clever solution.. I would have NEVER guessed that...
In what situations will the fluid expand or back up outside of when working on the brakes? Or is that what the engineers were thinking about?

They didn't go to such lengths in the other systems in the car, Power Steering, Auto Transmission, Radiator...ets..

I guess overfilling can have adverse effects in all those situations as well. Maybe it was not practical to do more then put an overfill line or a warning in some cases..

Thanks for the insight!

manual brakes are not tilted... lots of GM power brake cars aren't either... but you still aren't supposed to fill it to the top. supposedly the weight of the fluid can create drag.

i thought the tilting was so the pushrod angle would be correct while using the same pedal with a different hole.

many other cars make you change the whole pedal assembly to keep the pushrod angle correct. re-using the pedal and tilting the booster seems like a cheap solution.

Scott has the only answer that makes sense. Changing the hole in the pedal changes the leverage ratio, which apparently worked out as an easier way to balance the boost.

I remember once I changed the pads on a newer dodge w/o touching the master cylinder. the extra fluid created pressure and kept the brakes grabbing. scooped out some fluid and problem solved.

Really?? I would NEVER have tried that. The notion of the fluid creating drag would not have been an assumption I would have made..
As to the angle.. Also great insight..
again..
Thanks....

take a close look at your uptilted master. visualize it going down level and see what the bottom would hit. probably the steering coluum
