Default car craft?

Anyone seen the new Car Craft? It has an article in it about a 70 Firebird that was built to run 200mph. It has 670 heads that flow 356 on the intake and 261 on the exhaust with 2.125 intake valves and 1.75 exhaust valves. Also has Hedman 2 1/8 headers.

It is the Oct. issue. It says that the 670 heads were massively reworked. Also its a 400. Trust me its a must read if you want a good laugh. Unless Im mistaken Hedman does make 2 1/8 heads for a Pontiac. And iron d-ports flow 356/261 isnt going to happen unless they flowed them 40" of vacuum. But it is a nice car.

Who wrote the flow specs? Who ported the heads--Jesus of Nazareth? 365 CFM from a D-port is like walking on water--right?

Could be a typo. Maybe 256?

My new engine will dyno at westech in the next couple weeks, ( I'm waiting to share a day with someone to make it more affordable) , Since you sound like a westech naysayer I'll post a timeslip, let you guess the ponies and then I'll post the westech dyno sheet. I guess the bull will stop there.

I, for one, would love to see a time slip/Westech dyno comparison.

Westech's numbers always seem to be on the high side of optimistic.

Even Fulper will tell you there's no way an iron head will flow 300 cfm. That car is a nice looking car but come on CC do some research will ya please! I'm sure it is a fast car, but, totally fiction. IMHO.

The article also states that it has 13.5:1 compression. Did you see the picture of it at a gas pump? I seriously doubt that 110 octane fuel is commercialy available like that the pumps are usually off to the side by themselves and they won't let you pump it into your car. It's a $10,000 fine per violation to the gas station from the EPA if they catch them.

Blkcrow,

You really shouldn't use the "F" word in a sentence with any other reputable shop like Westech.

I'm no port expert but it is my understanding that when you get up over 275 at 28" you can run into water jacket issues. But the story did get everyone fired up huh?

Default Happy Numbers

Dil,

It seems like all the numbers that come out of that facility are inflated, maybe thats why bf goes there.

Man,I was going for a little more humor than what was generated!-but I know and speak with alot of serious racers (pontiac and others) and they all say the same thing about inflated numbers.Of course there are many shops that can be accused of that who are less known(theres rivalry in my own town!),but still for all the good they do magazines are nothing less than advertisements, and without exciting articles/advertisers to pay the bills there is no magazine period. For their supporters sorry to offend you but I stick to pontiac based magazines/builders for any real poncho tech, and consider car craft a close second for viewing a wide spectrum of cars.I think they have alot of excellent tech and Freiburgers the man!-but like most non specific car mags I dont really find the realistic in depth pontiac tech as evidenced by-in my opinion-this current article and their all brand shootout.Quote,We dont know just where this engines tourque peak lies because westechs superflow dyno couldnt hold the motor below 3,600-but at this point the torque curve was alredy on the downslope with the engine making 579.4 lbs. ft..They then went on to call the mopar the king of torque-amazing!!!!.
