to all body gurus

A old bodyman told me once that if you cut off a finder lip 2 1/2 to three 3 inches from the edge of the lip you can use this as the opposite rear 1/4 lip (i.e right front to left rear). Is this true? He said that this can only be used on 68 to 72 gm a bodies. I not sure about any other makes or models.
