Anyone out there know of a reputable service? Recent heath concerns have me laid-up for a while and I have a car awaiting me in NY state. I need to get it to the Chicago area by the end of the month. Any recommendations are appreciated.

another guy led me to http://autotrans.fedex.com. They are comparable price wise to DAS.

DAS is very expensive, as I checked with them before. I have used A Able Auto transport twice and have had good results.

I am in the process of getting a quote for west coast to east coast transport and it there isnt a wide range of prices. Highest to lowest is about 300 bucks.

I had a running '66 Lemans shipped from San Diego to West Palm Beach Florida in May. It was $795.

If this car is driveable, I also have a guy who can fly in and drive it wherever you need it to go.

That is amazing. 2,600 miles, that is only $0.305 per mile. Gas @ 2.79 a gallon would cost $600 getting 12 miles to the gallon. Somebody did not make any money for sure. That is only $195 for vehicle wear, food, time(3 days driving 12 hours) and profit.

Diesel fuel is even HIGHER!! Be very carefull about choosing your shipper. Those broker outfits bid so low that no drivers will pick up the job and you sit there wondering when your car is going to get picked up.

You are correct. More cars, more fuel. If a guy could do three cars, that would sure add some margin. I was figuring at 12 mpg. At 8 mpg, diesel, pulling three cars, $1023 in fuel. Charging $2385 for the three cars. $1,362. Income tax, truck and trailer payments, maintence, food, fuel permits, license plates.... If you could find three cars to haul back, $2,724 for 8 days(running somewhat legal) work minus expenses. Yea, I guess a guy could make a living. Wouldn't get rich, but wouldn't be home.

I was referred by this forum to the Horseless Carriage. They offered a fair price and the service was amazing. They took VERY GOOD care f my 69FB Vert. Babied it and covered it in plastic when shipping. Whatever you choose make sure it is a "covered" truck and NOT a brokered open wheel rig.

Several folks have expressed their satisfaction with various companies, but nobody has mentioned how much it cost them per mile. That's kinda what I was wondering. In an enclosed trailer, how much are they getting per mile? I got on line to get a quote, got a message that someone would be calling me. Never happened. Must be the world's best kept secret.

The transport on my car was so reasonable is because it came on a open transporter, and I didn't care if it was on the bottom or the top. I should add that this was door to door service, so on my end, a flat bed actually delivered the car the last 35 miles. That was a local towing company. From what I understand on these multi car haulers, you are only making money if you are running with a full load- 1 car short, and you are breaking even.

i used intercitylines (www.intercitylines.com). They seem very upscale and charged me quite a price (just under 2,000 for shipping my car from northern Oregon to northern Virginia). I didn't care, they looked like the best, and i did find some trying to charge me more than that for lesser service.

I used A Able twice in the past. If you are willing to wait, it can be done somewhat affordable. What they do is put you on a list until a trucker is near that area. If he has a empty spot, they will load it.
I had non running, but rolling cars transported. One from Utah to NY for $500 an one from Alabama to NY for $550. Had to wait almost a month before someone was in the area though. Since they were parts cars, I didn't mind.

I have used DAS in the past as well & was happy with their service. They had reasonable rates & relatively quick delivery. Was referred to them by another satisfied customer that had 3 vehicles shipped through them with no problems.
