I would like to remove the exhaust flap vlave in the manifold and was wondering once the shaft is removed if just welded the holes shut would be okay? Anyone been there before? Thanks

Thats what I did with mine. Cut a piece of the shaft, to fill the hole, then welded it in. I only have oxy/accetalene, so thats what I used. Never welded on iron. It isn't like steel. It might be best to braze the two pieces together.

I was planning on using my little bro's mig welder, would that be up to the task? That's a good idea using a piece of the shaft, I was just thinking of filling it with the flux. Better idea. Thanks.

FWIW, it's called a heat riser.

welding with mig on cast is not simple. Why not just cut flaps off shaft and tack shaft open. Will look stock but not have restriction.

When I did the same on my diesel, I just tapped the hole and screwed in a bolt. I also coated the bolt threads with JB weld. It's been years and no problems.

I removed the shaft and flapper and threaded for a 1/16 or 1/8 pipe plug. No leaks, no restrictions, and never had a problem.
