Default Need to seal my spoiler?

Just repainted the car and now I am putting things back together. When I took the spoiler off it loos like they had put some weather stripping adhiesive under the washer on the top of the trunk. Do I need to do this to keep water from leaking into the trunk? Or is there a better way to do this?

I would to keep the water out of the trunk. The stuff the factory used was called butyl. You can buy it at any home improvement store but silicone will work to.
