Body weight 67 post car
I'm getting ready to pull the body off frame finally! All the bolts are out (only one broken). I have somewhat limited space to work so I've designed a special rack to hold the body that will allow the frame to roll out for work and roll back for storage. The rack is basically made from a heavy duty industrial steel holding system which I modified, trimmed and welded on casters. I need to know how much the completely stripped 2dr post body weighs so I can figure out the best way to lift the body onto the rack. Can the body be lifted with 4 guys? I could get my hands on an oversize cherrypicker and use straps etc. Any suggestions on best, easiest, safest way to get this done? Thanks for any input.

I've seen guys that hooked chains from front to back seatbelt mounting holes. Push an engine hoist thru the window and hook to the chains. Jack it up. Use your help to keep the body from spinning.

Thanks for the great responses!! Let's see...how many beers does it take 4 guys to lift off a body??? That could get expensive!!! Fork lift in my 1 1/2 car garage....I've got almost enough room to walk now so that won't work, besides my forklift is 20 miles away. ABody....now that sounds like great idea!! I was looking at using a hoist above the roof and never thought about using the seat belt mounts. I'm on the move with that idea. Thanks to all!!

Woah woah woah WOAH!!!
Hold up guys, this needs to be done in a careful matter!!! I agree with members most of the time, but you don't want to make a GTO/mechanic sandwich in your garage  I just uploaded some video I shot with my camcorder back in January to document my "redo"...this should give you a good idea of how it's done and what a successful body off the frame ends up being...I just uploaded this to putfile.com so you guys can get an idea. 24 cinder blocks 3-8' 4X4's posts me and my son one block at a time
Rolled the frame out did floor pans, trunk and one crossbrace frame blasted new springs,shocks,fuel and break lines Eastman chassie black Undercoated shell new body mounts and she is back on the frame all in 30 Days Now my wife was not happy with all the long nights But I got it done It will go to a body shop for primer and paint at the end of Nov then come on Spring Paul |
