Default Squealing Speedometer

The speedeo in 69 GTO just started acting up today. After hitting 20 mph, it starts squealing and runs up to about 60 mph and bounces all over the place. After I slow down to 20 mph, it settles down again. Can I lube the speedo head somehow, or do I need to replace the unit?

Thanks, Bill

Bill, it is probably the cable. You can remove the gauge cluster, disconnect the cable from it, pull the cable through the housing and grease it lightly with vasoline...reverse steps. That should do the trick for you.

Thanks md1twal3. I drove the car again today and the speedo did not act up. I will grease the cable some time soon though.

The powder or aerosol graphite works really well and will not thicken up in cooler temp.
Awsome if real time acceleration could be that quick, hu?
Carlos.
