While Im here, another quick question. After years (10) I finally had the interior redone on my car. The problem is now with the new springs/foam ect... the seats seem way higher than before and my head almost touches the headliner. Im a big guy but I didnt have that problem before. I have seen the two racks the seats bolt onto the floorboard anbd they are the originals. Is there any cure, such as modified seat mounting brackets that are lower? It is a real pain getting in and out as well as now my damn thighs have to squeeze under the stering wheel. Any advise appreciated.

I have a similar problem being 6'4. I was told to cut the seat rails. Pull the seat all the way up and you'll notice the rail will end, and then turn and drop down about an inch before turning into the bracket which you bolt together. Cut that drop part off and weld the rail back together and then cut the front the same amount. I never tired it because I wasn't sure about the plastic seat tirm hitting the floor. Its an idea you might look at.

Just drive it and it will come down. Mine was the same way when the interior was brand new. 850 miles later, it is perfect.

I am 6'4" also, when I recovered my seats I purposely used the old foam to avoid what has happened to you. I am sure they will settle a little over time

I'm 6'5" and still have the original seat covers and stuffing in my seats. I too am concerned about when I re-do the interior...I don't want to be like Dino in Fred Flintstone's cruiser.

Do you have the seats mounted on top of the carpet and padding? You can gain a little room by cutting a flap in the carpet and padding and mounting the rails directly to the floor.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess Ill just drive it a while and see if it goes down by itself. With my fat ass in the drivers seat, it should compress some I guess. If not, those mounting brackets will have to be cut.

rugrat you do have a big head. Very nice '67 also.
I am 6'4" and had the same problem with my '69 after new interior was done. It has settled after driving it for a summer but my head still rubs the headliner a bit. Had to develop a comforatble crouch to fit in the car. I guess my head is big too. I am doing my '66 post right now so I will look at lowering the seat by modifying the tracks before we put in the interior. Also I have seen the brackets used on Firebirds to move the seat back 2" for more leg room. Will these work on A-bodies also? The lack of leg room especially in 64-67 cars makes it hard for anyone over 6'2" to get in and out.
