O.K. one of my plans for the winter is to restore my dash and components.
I plan on doing the dash bezel, gauges, harness, etc... I could use some tips on the right guy's to use. 1. My dash bezel ...Mr G's? 2. Harness and fuse block.....? M&H or Painless? 3. Tach restoration? 4. Clock resto, quartz conversion? 5. Speedo, and the other gauges? 6. The back of the firewall? 7. The Am / Fm radio? I also don't want to send something off and not see it for 9 months either. I want everything done by April or so. Damn, looking to be expensive. Any tip's or who to avoid? Also planning on replacing the heater core. 67 GTO.

Rugrat-
I am taking on the same project this winter...however, not to the extent you are. I am going with M&H Fabricators for my new dash wiring harness. I've used them for all of my other wiring harnesses and their product is top notch. Also, we doing the firewall, don't forget to replace the firewall pad. Definitely helps with keep the heat away from the passenger area. Good luck with the project. Jeff

For speedometer/gauge/clock restoration I've had good luck with APT Instruments in Minneapolis, they've done some amazing restoration work for me. I once brought them a motorcycle speedo/tach combination gauge that was literally a pile of loose parts in a box, and they put it back together better than NOS quality. I also had them rebuild a Pontiac factory tach and convert a '65GP clock to quartz movement with good results. Their website is http://www.gaugeguys.com/
I had a dash bezel redone by Mr. G's and was happy with their work. I've heard other people have had problems with his service, but everything worked ok for me. |

Dash- Performance Restoriations - Keller, Texas - Darrell Roach 817-431-1888
Gauges, Tach - Pete Serio - Precision Pontiac Radio - S & M Electro Tech 763-780-2891 This was AM/FM Conversion All three have done work for me with excellent results (search some of my post for pictures of the dash). It took a little longer than I like, but they were done over the summer, ought to be better now that it is their slow time. Larry

American Classic Restorations up your way Rugrat, in Uxbridge Massachusetts....the BEST!!!!!
That's what they specialize in actually, restoration and custom dash and gauge work. They do AWESOME work and don't try to rip you off like other resto places. They are friendly and don't mind if you call up to see what's going on. They haven't done my dash yet but they just got done on some custom gauge work I had done. They made me a modern interpertation of the factory console-mounted tachometer, using an aftermarket run-in-the-mill mailorder piece as a donor, and it looks KILLER!!!! http://www.american-classic.com/ |

The only personal recommendation I can give here is M&H. I have bought from them for over 10 years. TOP FLIGHT..

If you are having some plastic rechroming done I would HIGHLY recomend Layson's Restorations They do very nice work. They specialize in Mopar Restorations, but gave me exactly what I was looking at a great price.

Pete Serio isn't doing the cluster restorations anymore, but he does have the new replacement faces. They are top quality parts, and Pete is a great guy.
