Here's the car.......3030 lbs with out driver, .030 over 400, 10-1, .525 lift, 284 (?) dur, Virgin E-heads, Victor intake, 850 Demon, headers, MSD, TH400, 4.56, 2500 converter. Car runs consistant 11.70 @ 3000' with a sucky 1.8 60ft. MPH is arond 115. The engine is apart now for some porting on the heads to hopfully go from 278 to up over 300. Going to a bigger solid cam, up the compression to around 12.5 and getting a decent converter. My question is, with our old combo, is that about right ? I mean considering that we had the tight converter and sucky 60ft ? We are hoping that with the improvements, we can get a decent launch and get into the low 11's or high 10's at sea level. Just thought I'd throw it out there and let you guys chew on it........

That should run in the 10s for sure at sea level. A car weighing 3030 should 60 in the high 1.4s with that combo. What tires and suspension ya running. Get a decent converter and hook it up and I would say 10.80s are in your future.

That 4.56 gear is a lot. What rpm are you seeing in the lights?

Just to compare....
our 65 GTO with a .030 over 400, 670 heads ported by Mark Kauffman, 9.48 cr, Comp Cam XR288HR cam, 93 octane pump gas from Giant Eagle, 4500 stall converter, Torker I, 750 ProForm/ Holley by Tom Vaught and myself, T-400 transmisson by Cliff Ruggles, 12 bolt with spool and 4:11 gears, 28x10.50x15 M/T slicks, race weight of 3478 lbs, up here in sunny Ohio at Norwalk with an adjusted altitude of 2800-3200ft, 11.70s @ 115-117 all the time. So I think that you already have a strong 11 second car. We shift at 5800 and cross the finish line at 5900rpm. With the 4:56 gears we went 12.2-12.4 @ 110-112mph. I hope this helps. If there is anything that I can help with just ask.

Fasteddy...I figure just with a converter change, with the old combo, we coud cut 3 tens of our 60'. That would give us a 11.40 or so. Then if we corrected for altitude, should put us aroiund 11.10. With some more inthe motor, that should give us high 10's....I hope. He is running a 14.5 Hoosier and a 4 link.
Slowspitzer.....Yes, we are going to shoot for 4500, but that will depend on what cam we choose.
Warped......The car belongs to my son, so I'm not totally sure what size tire. I do know it's a 14.5 at around 30".....I know he shifts around 6200 and goes thru around 5800, but I may be wrong on that.
Herdsman....Sound like our old combo is close to yours. I hope that more cam, compression and converter will do the trick. This is about as far as he is going to go with this car. Any more and it's juice time.
