im curious as to why you chose the bbc route?
was it parts availability? performance vs price? the look of the bbc? other?

I think it depends what power level you're talking about. My 700 hp BBC just almost fell into my lap. I got it for about half the price of what a pontiac would have cost me at a similiar power and spec level. This was before all the new trick pontiac parts, like the new alum blocks and ready-to-race heads. I still think pontiac performance parts are too expensive and hope this will change. You can buy BBC heads and forged cranks for at least half the price of pontiac stuff. As for looks; I think a blue painted and assembled pontiac motor looks much better than a BBC engine. As for internals, BBC heads have the shock and awe factor but the new heads for pontiac look real nice.... and bigger is not always a good thing. If i start again; i would try staying all pontiac. The new pontiac heads seem to provide an awesome torque curve.

Using just factory parts, you could do just as well if not better going the all pontiac route. Thats what makes pontiac engines so cool. You can run fast with factory based parts.

it would seem that if $/hp comparisons are made, a pontiac can be very competitive for apps up to about 650hp. past that, the price for a pontiac head that flows more takes a big jump due to specialty valvetrain. until someone makes a new head that addresses the small bore limitations with a "clean sheet design", the chevy motors will continue to have an advantage.
