I started dismanteling my GTO so that I can send it out to be blasted. I was going to sand the whole thing down myself, but after a few hours of not getting very far, I came to my senses and decided to pay and have it blasted.
I have included a few pictures of how I would like to have it painted. Don't laugh too hard guys. I thought it looked pretty cool

I got that same little car for Xmas this year, and thought the same thing. The paint job IS pretty cool.
But then again, black flames? I mean, there's no such thing as a black flame. Red, orange, yellow . . . even blue or white - all legit. But black? Not sure it would look as cool on a full-sized car as on a little die-cast. Chris

I really like the silver/black flames. Very cool. But please don't pimp out the wheels. It would be like wearing big ol' smelly turds for shoes.

I was not a flame guy until my son gave me this little GTO for Christmas. I agree with crkoestr about the color, but black on silver is a sweet combination, and I am not much of a yellow, red, orange flame guy I think it's too gaudy the black is a little more subdued.
I have no intentions of pipming out the wheels. I like the same size all the way around, you know the squat/wide mean look, not the high school jacked look.

Think about doing it in silver just a couple of shades different for "Ghost Flames" they look really cool once applied and it is so subtle that from a distance most people don't even see them. But up close "wow"! Just a thought.

Here are some more pictures....
I finished gutting it today, at least as far as I am going to take it down. I will pull the dash after it is painted, so that the body guy can still move it around his shop.

She got loaded on the trailer yesterday and will get blasted today. It will be interesting to see what is under the several layers of paint that are on this beast. I bet this car will be quicker in the 1/4 mile by 2 tenths just because of the weight reduction.

Actually it has been unseasonably warm here. Sat it was in the upper 70's, Sunday it was 79. It has been great car working on weather here.

Well.....
I just got off of the phone with the body shop. Needless to say my fears have been confirmed. I am the proud owner of a Bondo Buggy. He told me that every panel on my GTO had bondo on it. The depth of said bondo ranged from 1/16th of an inch, to as deep as 1/2 of an inch. He said that whoever did the body work on this car previously, spent more time block sanding the bondo than it would have taken to work the dented metal and repair it properly. he said that he has never seen anything like this. He did say that the rust was really not that bad, but he said that he must have removed about 100 pounds of bondo. I am going to try and get up to see it before the end of the week so I can get pictures. I am sooooo bumming right now

Hey, that's what we get for liking cars that are now over 30 years old. They've almost all been through a hard life. My 70 had a large dented area that was revealed after it was blasted. It started in front of the rear wheel and went all the way across the passenger door. They had drilled holes and bondo'd it all. Now it's solid steel. You won't be sorry when it's done right.

Thanks for the words Dr., but I am having a hard time convincing my wife that this GTO is worth the $9,200 dollars that it is going to take to do it right.
Thoughts of selling my Can Am have crossed my mind, and anybody who knows me on this board will have a corinary when they read that.
