At one time eBay had a good reputation.....I think we may have seen the last of that. Every time I click on GTO's there's some A_ _Hole trying to scam us with a $5000.00 Buy It Now 67 Conv't. or the likes.....We should hijack these auctions with some extremely high bids. Create a ficticious ebay ID and scam them back. Every day there are at least 3-4 of these............

I see there were two scam auction on the same 67 GTO vert posted minutes apart. Two seperate seller IDs but the email was the same. eBay doesn't seem to care and if they did it could be fixed real quick.

I used to make a living on ebay.
This has been talked about for years in ebay's very own forums that there is one simple way that ebay could avoid 99% of all of these scams; REQUIRE proof of residence from EVERY user whether they are a buyer or seller. A drivers license, power bill, a VALID credit card (this could be verified with a small $.02 charge on the card which is what a lot of online gambling sites do), etc. Ebay is more interested in getting their money from the seller than protecting the buyer though. One day, (hopefully) a real competitor to ebay will come out and ebay will have to wake up and smell the coffee.

As of 6:58 I have found no less than 4 scammers on the GTO page of eBay. Really disgraceful......eBay better wise up because the scammers are after their paying customers who will never use ebay again when burned. They will also tell ten of their friends who will tell....you get the message...Hope eBay gets real about it. It burns my ass!!!!!!

The best way to thwart EBay? Stop visiting the site or listing/bidding any items!
We should support THIS site as THE PLACE to buy/sell cars/parts etc, full-stop. Buying/selling within a community where people know one another is still the best way to go, and generally NOT get scammed or ripped off. My $0.02 |

How many people actually fall for these things?
Is it any worse then the seller on some car-centric website that knowingly FALSELY advertises the "rust free, all original, clean interior runs great" desirable year car with the "new interior" for (insert below market value price here) I looked at lots of these cars the last year... HA! An Ebay situation, is no different then me calling a lying jerk across the states and saying "Hey, saw your car for sale on (insert website name here)... Heck Yeah! I'll BUY it!" Where do I send the money? I'll have it picked up next week..!" Buyers just need to do their homework...And (as mentioned) buy in a trust worthy environment. In Ebay's defense there are many thousands of auctions each day and how many fraudulent Auto Auctions? And the basis of Ebay is the Community aspect of it.. Lots of folks forget that...The Feedback and natural evolution that occurs in a marketplace where the level of satisfaction of each of the previous customers' transactions is open for all to see is what it is based on.. Imagine if you could see feedback from every customer at the Tire Shop, or the Parts Store you go to, posted out front... ? Wouldn't THAT be nice.. my $0.02

I've never been "scammed" on ebay. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to recognize these ridiculous overseas scams. My BIGGEST problem on ebay is with buyers who win my auctions and then never pay or never contact me. I have one of those situations right now. The guy had 50+ 100% Postive feedback and he hasn't contacted me for payment since he won two weeks ago. I noticed in the last week or so that he has received two new negatives because of failure to pay. He may have had something legitimate happen to keep him from paying but it sure does seem to be happening a lot more often lately.

e-bay has put a lot of parts into my hands that I would never have the chance to buy otherwise. Also, I have sold many items that I have packed, unpacked and dragged to swap meets and toy shows.
I think ebay has helped to lower prices on a lot items simply because they have appeared in multiples, making us realize some things aren't as "rare" as one may have originally thought. This hobby is expensive for everyone, and I do not fault anyone for putting scarce items up for auction, such as the above mentioned fenders for $3000. He probably can use the money to further his project, whatever it may be. If they sold for that amount, I bet the buyer was happy to get them. If they didn't sell, maybe they're not worth it. I have never been "angry" that I won an auction or found a special part at a swap meet. Ebay is a great place to find out what your items are worth, as the whole world gets to have a chance to look at your things. All you need are two people who want your item to find its true worth. |

I agree with what Pitts and 26667 say. I have found many parts for many different cars without leaving the house, parts (and cars) that may have taken me years to find without this resource. But I have been very lucky as I have not been burned. But I'm sure I'm due! I have bought 4 cars because of Ebay and were exactly as described.

He was hysterical, but went WAY overboard some times. He is one of the reasons I kept coming back in the early years.
OK, what's a Tootsoon? I'm sure I just got set up for something, or is it just a Polish joke??

I used to spend a lot of time emailing buyers time and again asking them when they were going to send payment. Now, if I haven't heard from them in 7 days, I file a dispute thru Ebay (ther'e a link in your my ebay page). Usually within a few hours I hear from them because if they don't answer they get a mark. 3 marks they are gone. It works against sellers that don't want to deliver the goods now also.
If you still don't here from them after a week, finish filing the claim to get your refund and relist. There are both good and bad points to Ebay. There are still good deals to be had, just be carefull. Gary |

I've been ebaying for nearly six years now. I've sold parts that I've had in my garage since the 1970s for silly money that I could never have sold elsewhere. How else could I have sold stuff to Canada, USA, Portugal, France, Australia, Singapore, Denmark, Malta, Germany etc etc etc? I know ebay's getting rather too expensive, but until another serious player enters the marketplace I think we should all be grateful for what we have and the opportunities ebay gives us!
