Question ACCUSUMP USERS

I need some advise as to where the output from an Accusump is piped to and from. Is the fitting behind the distributor sufficient? Pictures? Thanks, Steve

I don't have one but that's where I would plumb it. (by distributor)

I use a -8 line from the plug by the distributor to my Accusump.

There's that 11 second 4 banger. Love it. Thanks you guys. It looks like the distributor hole is it. Do you have the manual valve or the electronic valve?

I don't have any valve but I do use an inline filter on the Accusump.

Warrior,
What's with the 8 wire distributor, are you running 2 plugs per cylinder?

Herb

O yes,I have an experimental Hemi-E head with 2 plugs per cylinder. I would show you a picture but then I would have to kill you. I am currently adapting a Cadillac V-16 distributor so I can use the heads on a V8

White Warrior

Is the oil routing the same on the 4-banger as the V8 ?

ie The oil moves down the lifter gallery feeding the mains and cam on the way (but feeding no lifters on this side due to 4 cylinder), across the front of the block @ #1 and up the other side to feed the lifters only ??

This way the mains and cam get fed before any of the valvetrain ?

I had my accumulator plumbed in a "T" between the oil filter (remote) and the block inlet as per the Moroso instructions which required the use of an accusump one way valve (restrictive ????)

I never thought of plumbing it into the hole near the dizzy which is simpler (one line only) and does not require a one way valve on the outlet of the block on the way to the filter.

It may also benifit beacause it (the accumulator) will feed the front and second main first which we have problems running rod bearings from (as opposed to the 3,4,5 main which we have no problems with")

Is my thinking right on this or am I barking up the wrong tree ??

I believe the oiling paths are essentially the same. I used the same outlet with my V8 engines with good results. The accumulator and head drains will greatly improve oiling reliability.

Thanks for the help

With the head drains on iron heads (we are restricted to iron for class racing)
do you block off the returns to the valley some how or just install the drains at the rear (-8 ???)

I though of tapping through the end of the head low down by the rear head stud where the oil ususally ponds (upper row) and installing drains from there

By blocking off the other 4 drainbacks between the valves this would direct most if not all of the oil to the drains into the sump. Hopefully this would aid oil return and stop some of the airation of theoil hitting the crank

I haven't blocked off the internal head drains but you could. Just put your drain as far back on the heads as you can.

Fasteddy, did you ever get your oil accumulator setup? I've been considering one for my car and was wondering about your results and if you were pleased with it?

Buster, not yet. I have the accumulator but the motor is still in surgery for next season. I will probably not know anything about results for a few months.

Default accumulator

IM GETTING READY TO INSTALL A 3 QRT SYSTEM ON MY 462,I CALLED CANTON FOR PROPER PLUMBING.THEY SUGGEST YOU DONT USE THE HOLE BY DISTRIBUTER TO SMALL.YOU NEED A #10 LINE PLUMBED FROM REMOTE SET UP.ITS PROBABLY OK FOR 4 OR 6 CYLINDER. I WOULDNT SUGGEST THAT FOR V8..

I was going to weld a 1/2" npt thread weld fitting on the top of the oil filter housing as I don't have the room by the distributor, plus I just moved my oil presure guage fitting there. I still don't understand why that wouldn't be ok as they do make -10 to 3/8 npt fittings. I have a couple in my fitting drawer and they look perfectly adequate to me. Another thing to keep in mind is the feed hole on the block for the oil filter housing isn't any larger.
