Hi, I'm Johnny Cash,
I'm trying to put a Chev. 402 Big Block into a 1973 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 for a Race only application. I would like to use solid motor mounts. I also have a new Chev. TCI TH400 that I will need to install. I would like any info. anyone has to install this combo. I know you guys are all Pontiac and that's cool. I would like to put a 455 in, but I already purchased these parts and I'm stuck with them. I was going to put them into my '89 Camaro until I found what a nightmare it will be. I found this Bird instead. Way down the road I would like to restore this car back to original specs also, so I don't want to chop and grind to much on it. My main question here is what motor mounts do I use and where do I get them from? Moroso doesn't list a mount for '73, They do list a mount up to '72 and '74 on up. Why not '73? Also, Jegs say's if the wrong motor mounts are used; some aftermarket headers will not fit. Thank you very much, Mike Griffin |

Just find a early second gen camaro. The subframes are almost identical on camaro and firebirds.

You would use a 1970-74 Crowmarrow as your application for parts.

I'm not the brightest cat, are you saying just address it as Camaro when ordering parts? Since it is an F-body?

Will they be a bolt on application? Jeg's say's that maybe the mounts won't set on the frame in the same spots? I have the engine on the stand and ready to go. Tomorrow I'm pulling the 305 out of the bird. Will the th400 set down on the crossmember and bolt on?

Is the 305 you are refering to a sbc? If so you should have no problem because apparently someone has made a changeover. As for the th400 it is not a direct bolt in from a th350 / PG, the th400 requires a different crossmember. A trick to overcome the crossmember problem is to take the th350 crossmember cut the mounting tab off the front and reweld it to the rear side of the crossmember, or move it rearward and drill new holes in the subframe. Firebirds, and Camaro's share the exact same unibody in all respects therefore you just have to crossover the parts and part numbers accordingly you may have to drill an extra hole or two. Good luck.

This thread should be moved to the Non-Pontiac Motors . . . heading as well.
Moderators, please?
