Default Filler Panel

I'm looking for the passenger inside corner Filler panel for my 68 Bird. Does anyone know if they are being reproduced or where I can get one? Thanks Dave

Do you mean the '68 AC/400 "Radiator Cross Brace Fillers"? PY sells them in pairs - part number RFE21M. I see them in their catalog but don't know how close they are to original quality.

Thanks Jim, that is correct. I converted my 68 non-AC Bird over to a 400 and need the filler panels between the radiator support and the bumper. I have the driver's side inside corner and need the passenger side plus the middle ones. I would like them to be metal instead of the fiberglass repro one's that the aftermarket places sell.

The PY part I mentioned is metal. Also note that the sides of the radiator use two rubber radiator to core suppoer seals (some call them masticated fillers) and the bottom (under the valance) uses a metal baffle. Try to find an original metal lower baffle. Unless they have improved the fiberglass one during the past couple years, it is about a half inch short and fits poorly.

I checked out the part # that Jim gave me and it shows they are out of stock right now.

I was looking at their printed catalog 11G. I don't know if it shows up in their latest printing in February. You may need to call to ask if they will get them in stock again. Here's what the 11G shows:

hmmmmmm... I just noticed that they show the metal for '67-'69 yet the Pontiac parts book has different part numbers for '67-'68 and for '69. Yet PY shows the fiberglass version for only '67-'69?????????????

FYI, I checked my Paddock catalog and found them there too, although they also say '67-69?? Someone else will will need to verify their application and accuracy for a '68. See: http://www.paddockparts.com/Paddock/...DB55624028182D

One more post.
I looked at the Paddock part picture and it didn't look right. Compare this picture of my left original with their picture. The bend at the back that goes up under the radiator support is missing and the bend at the front looks wrong. Oh well, sorry. You could check for used ones from: Terry at info@firebirdman.com (www.firebirdman.com) or from Firebird Bill at EarlyBrds@aol.com

The only difference between '67-68 and '69 is that '69 has a 3/4" wide "U" cut out of the top edge (where it buldges out) to allow for attachment of the '69 power steering cooler lines.

Thanks guys.....It looks like I will have to go with a used one, since nobody is reproducing them at this time.

Hey I have a spare metal bottom pan. It is alot rougher than I was lead to believe but have been considering using it as a template and making up some repos. OR if anyone here works in sheetmetal fabrication it's a real easy piece to redo, 1 brake, 1 edge, and a few beads.

Oh and you can verify the original parts from this site. Has all the 1st gen factory documentation

You guys are talking about whats "commonly" called the 'X fillers' , since they have those X`s on them...I bought mine from Paddock , think they were about $85 4-5 yrs ago...Ames also sells these. calls them Core support filler panels , part no FP191J, 4 lists in my catalog for $99.00 /set

67,68 were slightly different from 69, but all will work, I think 'most' places sell them as 67-69 now...

I`ve also seen 'home made' ones, not 'correct', but works...made from old lic plates...

I tried to have some made....*

(the "lower air baffle" as you talk above is not reproed in metal, you can get in fiberglass... most originals/metal are sold on EBay, my friend recently bought a very good one for $250!! those are also different for 69`s , ends are longer...)

*I took one to a metal fabricator to see if they could repro them ,thought I`d make a supply....nope, he said to make a repro like that (not just something that works, but correct looking) you`re talking of having a 'stamping tool' made at a cost of $10,000 or more....
I thought like you " it's a real easy piece to redo, 1 brake, 1 edge, and a few beads.", but noooo....

if you cant find one thru FireBirdBill or Terry , I`d check often on EBay, I`ve seen some 'singles'; sell there once in a while...make sure you get correct side.

OR buy a new complete set as I suggested above , & sell YOURS on EPay!
