Default Air shocks in a 72

Was the little round dimple in the rear bumper a provision for mounting the air valve for air shocks? Were they available from the factory? Just curious as It is time to replace my air shocks and that is where the valve is hooked up mine keep deflating after a week or so.
Sorry for the ignorance in the subject. Thanks. Pete.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
Are there advantages/disadvantages with airshocks vs non. Since I need new shocks now is a good time for me to ponder this question.
