Default 1973 seat belts

does anyone know what years will interchange with a 73? My car has the shoulder harness and I'm looking for the drivers side seat belt. I only need the female part to the belts. The latch was out of the seat belt when I purchased the car. It looks like I could replace just the latch. Any help appreciated.

I had to use one of my rear belt receptacles since I only had a front retractor. Now it leaves me searching for a set of rear belts. Good luck. I'm interested, too.

Only late 72 and 73 will be the same. They do pop up on E-bay from time to time. You might try G.M. Sport Salvage located in San Jose, CA. They have a websight and ship all over the country. They have acres of Firebirds, camaros, and other pontiacs.

I have two or three extra rear seat belt buckles for a '73. Once the female side explodes, I don't think it can be fixed. Here is a pic of one of the buckles. I have sold them on eBay in the past for $35 each.

I had to buy like six of them in a lot to repair the seat belts in my car. If it would help let me know or I can send pics of the buckles in my car.

Unfortunately, they are all black. Some of them were cut out of cars and so the webbing needs to be replaced and you could have Snake Oyl replace the webbing in maroon.

I took the one from my rear seat and took it apart and put it in my front seat belt latch. I think what happens is the plastic that holds the spring in becomes brittle and falls apart. I think I've found one locally from a 73 grand am. I'll take that one apart and use it in my rear seat belt.

1973-74 GM buckles are the same but there is one thing I noticed recently that is different in 1974. The plastic button retainer for the front seat buckles has the snap-in pegs in a different location and won't interchange with the rear seat or '73 buckles. I think the most likely reason is because the '74 seat belt interlock system has the switch in the buckle while the '73 seat belt warning system has the switch in the belt retractor.

Your never going to dye a black seatbelt maroon if that's what someone was suggesting. However, for those interested, I did redye my faded black ones black again with RIT dye you can get from any store. Just followed the directions on the bottle and they turned out great. Incidentally, any nylon item you have will dye including seatbelts, washers, etc..as long as you are not trying to change the color, exception being you can force any color to black.

I cannot speak for all GM models, btu the 1974 Firebirds have the two part seat belt system wit hthe retractable (male) shoulder/lap belt.

Incidently, I have not previously had any reason to see if the any of the 1974+ female ends were the same...

I have a grenaded back seat buckle that needs a replacement.
Lemme know if anyone has a spare...to spare.

The female part of the buckle is the same(except for the difference I stated above) for '73-74. You are correct about the male part of the buckle being different for the front seats. As far as I can tell, the seat belt assemblies for the rear seats are the same for both years.
