hp variances
I don't know if anyone has actually researched this or not, but if you were to build a 350, 389, 400, and 455 the exact same way, how much difference in hp would you see between the 350 and the 400 and the 400 and the 455? I'm trying to decide if it's worth the $ and energy to locate a good 455 core. I know there's "no replacement for discplacement", but I want to see if it can't be quantified.

just to use the 400 and 455 for example, which is what you should go with if you you're looking for power, and you are because you are asking the questions.
a 400 and 455 typically will make the same HP, but the 455 will make it at a lower RPM, and make a ton more torque to boot. a 455 Pontiac makes an excellent street engine because they like a higher gear ratio than a 400, which means you can be just as fast, and still cruise on the highway. you can also stroke your 400 out to a 455 with an aftermarket crank...400s are much more plentiful than a 455. |

So what is a good price on a stock rebuilt 455 as right now that's probably more in my $ range. I believe I got a price of about $1900. That and I'm leaning towards the Holley Commander 950 FI set up.

Fuel injected? So you have the money for that separate and you are wanting a long block for 1900?

I have conversion bearing kit to install a 455 crank in a 400 block. Use factory rods and std bore stock replacement pistons if ya want.

No I was asking if it was 1900 for the short block or if you were expecting to build an EFI engine complete for that much.
There is a 455 short block assembled for 800 in the performance parts section. That is a steal.
