Hi there;

I have the stock vacuum door lock option on my 1969 Grand Prix and I am having trouble finding any testing/restoration information on the system. I have the Fisher Body Manual but it only lists the connections by color, similarly the shop manual only lists the connection from the firewall forward.

In particular I'm trying make sure the main valve, reservoir, and door lock vacuum pods are functioning properly before I re-install everything and also hoping to find replacement color striped double vacuum hoses (orange/yellow and green/white).

The car is not running yet (trying the get the dash installed for startup hence this little side project) so I don't have a vacuum source yet either.

Has anyone else worked with this system before?

I may have the canister, I believe it mounts on the inner fender, have to look at that pair. I have the actuators and switches, they are on a pair of doors I'm taking to norwalk.

You could use a hand held vacuum pump attached to the canister connection to test.

Hi Keith, yes, the reservoir sits on the firewall side of the driver inner fender with a small check valve inline between the engine vacuum source and the interior.

That's a good idea about using the reservoir cannister, I'll see if I can find someone with a hand held vacuum tester, connect everything up and then see if the switches will activate the vacuum locks.

About how much vacuum should I generate in the reservoir do you think?

hi...I own a 1969 Pontiac grand prix sj, I phoned GM and they informed me that i have 1 of 6 cars made. Mine was # 3....They told me it was a extremly rare special order from factory car. They also said they will be sending me Historical papers for it. Does anyone know anything about this car. I do know who the oringinal owner is. All the numbers match up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much

Hi redfiretop, first off CONGRATULATIONS! it sounds like a very interesting car that we would all like to hear more about!!!

Depending what get from GM, you might consider getting a reprint of your cars documentation from Pontiac Historic Services http://www.phs-online.com - they do charge a fee for the service, but the information they provide is invaluable.

I don't know if you realize that your post is actually under an existing post I created about the Vacuum Door Locks I have on my 1969 Model J car - I don't think you meant to post it one level higher so that everyone can find out more about your car!

Thank you so much for replying....GM is sending all the information I need to learn about the historic society. I also wanted to mention that is has a constant 80 psi oil pressure. Once again thank you....
