Yeah, I saw the pics last night. That's what piqued my interest. I was wondering what the story was on the car....How you found it, PHS results, factory colors, where the engine is...? That kind of stuff.
Looks like you have your work cut out.
Kinda like me...but I'm not doing a complete frame-off.

A friend found it for me after trying for 2 years. He has 2 goats, a 68 and a 71 judge. There are missing parts like the engine and a hood but its a start. I was in awe when I seen how immaculate the frame was. I just printed out the forms to send to PHS. Cant wait to see were it came from. Original color was burgundy with a black vinyl roof. I want to make it completly original but my wife wants me to put in a 4 speed and paint it blackberry candy.

Compromise with her...Put the four speed in but paint it original. Burgandy and black is an awesome color combo.

Here are some various pics of mine. Some are of it in the condition I got it and some are at various times over the last year when I started taking it apart, stripping paint and such.
I've spent this year so far learning to use my mig welder. I'm just about finished with body work and ready for paint. That's what the pic in my previous post is showing. I had extensive roof rot but the rest is nearly rust free.

Very nice Greg. Did it have a vinyl roof before that caused the roof rot? Is that another 68 under the tarp?

Yeah, it had a vinyl roof. Probably go back with one as well.
The first and last pics were taken by the previous owner. The guy was strictly a Chevy man so I suspect that it's a Chevelle under there. In fact, he only had my car for about 3 weeks. He bought it just to resell as a project car.

I think the chalk marks on the firewall just mean that some task was finished during assembly. Take a bunch of good pics and replicate 'em after you refinish the firewall.

Very rare still still obtain original crayon marks. as said previously, when a worker on the assembly line finished something the firewall was marked.
THIS IS NORMALLY SPRAYED OVER , or oversprayed over depending on color combos. I love the look of it on finished cars. what exactly they mean youd have to ask an old assembler from back in the day. I would post this in the JUDGES section as we are super freaks & there are some key people there, & rarely look at other pages in these forums.
Ive seen dates, OK, & number combos. SOME MAY SAY incorrect for concours but you have documentation. you may want to bring that image BACK into photoshop & mess with brightness & contrast it may come out clearer

i tried messing with image & you did a pretty good job. there is a check mark, & this is by your heater core opening correct.
I would assume the check mark is the assembler did his job. to the right of that might be a date code... check your data plate if corresponds. under that might be initials of assembler.......
ALSO these could be marks from a junk yard, as it is pretty stripped.
There also appears to be a lot of holes in that firewall. the big ones are for the under dash insulation plugs, I BET that car had an under hood firewall mounted lamp & actuator, voltage regulator would bolt directly behind air cleaner.
KEEP IN MIND THESE cars are 36+ years old & anything or anyone could have marked them. IVe NEVER quite seen them that big especially the 3 letters towards your tunnel. ID like to know if you find further info.

This guy is a member here...He has some great photos of original markings and details on the '68 he's restoring as he disassembled it. He's actually decoded some of it. For instance, he has D24 = Alpine blue with parchment interior.

My 68 had 223 with N above it. That showed the interior trim (Black bucket seats) and the exterior color. They were sprayed over and located under the voltage regulator. Behind the master cyl. was the code for the black vynol top. My 68 has the same colors that your came with. People are always complimenting me on the color.

In 69 , the firewall chalk marks were sales code numbers by model. Its a combo of model and color.

I've found a ton of firewall chalk on cars I've built. On A-bodies, usually just paint codes. ATL Judge I'm building now only had the "72" in the center of the firewall, under the black. This example has more, though tough to decipher in pics.

Now on First gen camaros, there can be a laundry list of all the options for the car, but those are marked before the firewall blackout. If you think about the assembly process, it wouldnt make sense for markings after it left Fisher and over the black. Assembly plant workers didnt mark anything during that period.

Of course, this probably differes from plant to plant, along with the workers on a particular shift.

My Arlington-built '69 Judge had '24237' in yellow right in the center of the firewall. The voltage regulator was obviously installed afterward, because it partially covered the markings. i traced the marks before the car was stripped and put it back on after re-painting the firewall.

Dave, I'm assuming that your '72' mark was a code for Carousel Red?
