Can anyone explain or provide a picture regarding the installation of an 8 track player in a 69 with a 4 speed console? I have the mount for the automatic console and have seen the ones that mount directly to the floor, but never as requested. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I looked at the restro guide since the 68 and 69 mounting system is different.
Under the console there is a floor bracket. It has one mounting hole forward and two side holes. The top has four holes. Spacer sleeves go between the floor mount and the bottom side of the console. The console is sandwiched between the floor mount and the 8-track mount. The 8-track has side studs that attaches it to the upper bracket. At the bottom rear of the 8-track is a tab with a hole. Not sure if it is used on an installation with a console. Probably there to prevent the 8-track from swiveling.

If you don't have the 8-track mounting bracket that goes underneath the console you can use screws to screw the 8-track brackets
to the console top. If you have the bracket, the bracket screws to the floor
board underneath the console, then you drill holes in the console and the
8-track brackets bolt directly to the lower bracket with the console sandwiched in between. If you don't have the lower bracket and screw the
8-track brackets to the console, you will need to run a ground wire to the upper brackets or the 8-track won't play. The tape player's only ground
from the factory was through the brackets to the floorboard.

Good info and pictures. Is the under console bracket the same for the 4 speed and automatic. I hope so because I have one for an auto.

I have seen many of the under console brackets with the GTO players I restore, and I they are all the same, no difference between AT and manual transmissions. Look in the GTO resto guide there is an excellent pic showing the bracket and 8 track installation. Regards, Jim

Here is a picture of the correct floor mount bracket for factory 8 track player on my 69 Judge. You will also need the specific lower heater duct seen in the photo. Note it splits behind where the tape player would mount to avoid overheating the unit. Both these items are on ebay semi-regularly.
